CB Age "Acce
Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket
CB Age "Acce
CB Age "Acceptance"?
So this is something I have pondered for a while. I am sixteen, and I have been on the CB since I was twelve (wow, that's a long time!). Then I realize that the oldest here is 19 to my knowledge. BHR, Butterfly, and Oregano are the eldest, correct? Well, anyways, I've been wondering, when is it no longer socially "acceptable" to be here? I mean, the CB welcomes all, but I have only a few years until I am the age of the eldest here. And they are still loved and accepted just as much as anyone else!
I'd just hate for things to get awkward, being too old. I mean, personally, I don't know if I'd stick around forever as I get older. Life moves on, and I have places to be and things to do. But a few more years wouldn't do anyone harm. So what do you guys think age wise?
Also... sad thought. Imagine this: You have been connected to the CB for years. Take me, for instance, back on since I was 12. It's been 4 years off and on. You know how many people I've met? I've been on the CBer longer than most of them because they left. Just think about it, you guys will be like eighteen, nineteen, about to leave the CB and you look back. All your closest friends have already left the CB. You are a stranger in a new land - not to mention the oldest. That feeling must be so weird. I am not looking forward to the day when I know it is time to leave, looking back at all the memories, just to find no familiar faces left.
Weird...

According to multiple people, the CB was technically made for an age range of 8 or 9 'til 12. But, so few of us fit into that age range so I don't think it's completely accurate. I personally think that 20 or so is the time to leave, not because it's no longer 'socially acceptable' so much as it's just time to grow out of a website made to help people find themselves and enter the world as fully fledged writers and dreamers. And anyways, by that age, most of are going to have college to worry about, so we would probably have to not post for such long periods of time that we may as well not be there. I mean, think about it. When was the last time you saw any of the 19 years olds post?
Cricket (thus also Chatterbox) targets young readers ages 9 to 14, but the ages are only guideline because, as we all know, reading and interest levels vary.

Agree,d, that is what I was thinking as well. I mean, everything has a "socially acceptable" limit. I was just unsure what you guys thought. Because I know quite a few of us are 15 and 16. BHR, Butterfly, Oregano, they are all 17-19. Isn't Oregano 19? She posted a bit recently on one of my threads, but I also know she is really busy with college. I mean, you got to do what you got to do!
So even if we disregarded the social aspect, you got to think of life too. I mean, I recently posted about TNO being 24 and ZNZ being 20. Seriously, you won't see those guys again (as much as I wish we could). So... Yeah. Only a few more years in my case.

Ashlee. . ? I'm 13. Just thought you might want to know. . .
But I did join at 8. At that time I was the youngest one there.

*Facepalm* You are thirteen?! I seriously thought you were 17 or 18 along with the others. My bad, at least that means you are super mature, because you act much older than you are.
(May 16, 2017 - 1:27 pm)
Yup, I'm 13. Thank you for saying that I'm mature; sometimes I feel like I act too grown up and I want to release more of my crazy self. But at the same time, I feel like it's too late, because for four years I've been acting "grown up." And if I start doing smileys and caps and exclamation marks, I feel like no one will listen to me anymore. I think that's my flaw; I always want my way, and I fight for it. I feel like if I act crazy, no one will listen anymore.
Sorry, I kinda got carried away. By the way, if you didn't always post your age, I would think you were 17-19.

I'll still be here Ashlee! I have no intention of leaving. Also, I'm younger than you so I can stick around for longer without a busy college life
Cardinal says "unbc". Yes, it is hard to "unCB".

Whew, I was afraid you weren't here! I am glad you have no intentions of leaving, especially since you are younger. You really do help the CB shine!

When you start buying stocks and planning who to marry, I advise you pay more attention to that instead of the CB. Of course, if your parents are crazy about stocks (like mine) and they made you buy a Facebook share, that's exceptable.
(May 14, 2017 - 9:25 pm)
Hah, the first time I read this I read it as "When you start buying SOCKS..." etc. Then I realised that it didn't make sense, so I reread the paragraph and it actually said stocks. :P
(May 15, 2017 - 7:19 am)
Agreed, I mean, if that is the case you are probably an adult. Although I must say, stocks are quite worth it! I don't have any, but I would love to own a Facebook share.

Oh dear. I hadn't really thought about it. It is weird getting older though, when I first joined I was the youngest person here and I kind of liked that, but now I feel like so many people are younger. Not everyone, I'm only 12, but it is strange to get older. If I stay until I'm 18, I'll have been on for 9 years! That's insane. All the 10 year olds will be 16.. wow. I need to stop thinking about this..
(May 15, 2017 - 7:25 am)
Wow, weird thought when you put it that way! I mean, I have noticed most people from age 14+ end up leaving. Some even at 13 because they feel it isn't right (or even in some cases, popular) to be on a forum board with younger kids. Many also go to The Slam, meant for older folks. Teens, anyways. So I feel that everytime the youngest age group (in our case, 8-12?) reach around 16 or 17, it's a new generation. I mean, like I said, TNO's 24 now. TNO was a teen last I was part of the CB! So that means when you are 18 like you said, most will be 16.
Weird...

I think that most of the time people leave before they get "too old," and that you're only too old for the CB when you don't feel like going on anymore.
Basically, no one's had to worry about being too old yet, because it seems like life kind of takes care of it.
(May 15, 2017 - 3:28 pm)
True, true. I think back to my last "generation" of CBers, people like Joe and TNO left. But I quit the CB before I saw when that was. I think Joe probably left when he was 19? Just a guess. And TNO, who knows.
So I see what you are saying. As for my current state and my future plans (community college online, then transfer to probably an online university), I will be at home for many more years. It helps saves money while I get my schooling. So I feel like my life might branch off differently than most. Will that permit me to stay here longer? Well, I still don't think so. But it will lead to an odd case of life. Thanks for the advice!

I'm 16 too, been on since I was 13 (and still calling myself A Curious Dragon, hah), and I've taken a couple several-month hiatuses because I thought the CB no longer interested me. Turns out it still does, especially since I'm an avid roleplayer. The CB is one of those things I can't picture myself quitting, but also can't picture myself doing forever. Like living with my parents.
Yeah, you're right, this is really weird to think about.
