Ahhh So Nervous

Ahhh So Nervous

So... As some of you might know, I love writing poetry. Well, as of less than a month ago I started sharing my poetry book with people in person. Over the summer you guys read some of the poems from my book on my poetry sharing thread and left amazing feedback.

Well, I decided why not try to get my work in some magazines? I know a ton of you have tried getting submitted, so I had a burst of inspiration to try the same.

The thing I'm nervous about is I don't like having people read my poetry (besides on here of course) since I'm afraid of what they'll say. Poetry is something more in-depth than most of my novels, always telling such a strong story. So the thing is, it took a lot of nerve to do this.

Over the past few days, I've submitted to Cricket, Cicada, Rattle YPA (last year for the YPA version for me), Canvas Literary Journal, and PolyPhonyHS. The most two I am hoping to be accepted into are Cricket and Rattle, so it's a bit nerve-wracking, for it's my first time submitting anything.

Any advice would be helpful from Admins or you guys! I really hope to submit more later on, so right now I'm just holding my breath.

Keep doing what you love, Ashlee. It is not easy to get a poem published. There is so much competition, so many people submitting poetry. Even very good poems may not be selected. But, as with almost any skill, the more you write, the better you'll get. Do you enter our Cricket League poetry contests? That's a good place to start. The next one is in February.

Best wishes,

Admin

Thank you, Admin! I will continue to improve, I know, and maybe one day I will get published for it. As for the Cricket League, I've never heard of it, but I will enter in February. Again, thank you for all the help!

Look for the contest description at cricketmagkids.com/contests in February.

Good luck, Ash. Try not to think about it too much when you're writing poetry. Try to sort of let yourself go. Which doesn't make any sense but whatever. Keep on writing!

I'm debating whether I should submit a story to Stone Soup. It's about three girls who live in Africa. Do you think i should?

I would if I were you! I actually looked at submitting to Stone Soup, but the age limit is 14 and younger. Or 13 and younger, I can't remember. Sorry, I don't know your age, but if you are under the age limit, you should really submit to them.

Thanks, BooksyBear! See, that's kinda why I haven't been writing as much recently. For poetry, I need a clear mind and just go with whatever comes. But recently I've been so stressed out with school that nothing comes...

Regardless, I will, thank you!
