Who We Are

Who We Are

Sorry Admins, I've made a ton of threads today. But this one here is kind of unique. We all do descriptions of our AEs, but never of ourselves. I know some of that's a bit personal, and that's cool.

But if you wish, this is the thread to describe your hobbies, random facts about you, and what you love doing for fun.

So here's about me:

~ I am an overall HUGE gamer. I love video games, especially first person and third person shooters like COD Ghosts, Black Ops II, and The Divison. I also love the Assassin's Creed series, Minecraft, Mario Kart, and a ton more. I don't have a favorite platform, I play PC, Kindle Fire, smart phones, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, Wii, DSi, things like that.

~ I am also a major book nerd, especially with Harry Potter. I love fantasy and sci-fi the most, and I prefer series over single books. But I got to be honest, historical reads like the Diary of Anne Frank really mean a lot to me.

~ Cheesecake. Enough said there xD

~ Pranking people. I know, there are various views on the topic of pranking, but as long as it does not offend or hurt someone, me and my best friend do it all the time.

~ Internet. Goes along with gaming, but somewhat even more so. I love Facebook, online games like Tanki Online, coding, and the CB.

~ Coding, it's something I'm fairly new at, but enjoy doing.

~ Adventure. I love being outside, exploring the world whenever possible.

~ Walking. Don't ask why, but I find it an enjoyable activity. It gives me time to have my thoughts silently to myself.

~ Dreaming. I am a vivid dreamer, and kind of can control what I dream about. So daydream, sleep dreaming, it is all epic.

~ And finally, photography and art. I love taking pics of nature and people and sketching. My favorite brand is Prismacolor for colored pencils, and Nikon for cameras.

So what about you guys? I'd love to get to know you all a bit better!

So, I know this isn't about me, but about cheescake:

My friend plays defense on my soccer team, and she has a strategy that she'll use at the last second when someone on the other team is about to shoot. She yells, "CHEESECAKE!" hoping to distract them. It actually works.

Wow, that's awesome. I don't play soccer, so I won't have the chance to use that. But next time I need to distract someone, I'll try out that strategy. Cheesecake is the best.

Well . . .

I recently got super into Pokemon. My brother was watching XY on Netflix, I made the mistake of joining him, and now I'm completely addicted. I watched both seasons of XY, XYZ, and am currently watching Indigo League and Advanced at the same time. I also have this video game for the Wii, Pokepark, which I've gotten back into too.

As everyone knows, I'm the ultimate Harry Potter nerd. I can answer almost any trivia question you throw at me. However, disturbingly, it seems as though Doctor Who may be overshadowing my expertise! A few people I've talked to mentioned that show as my overwhelming trait instead of Harry Potter.

I love the Internet. The CB is one of the main websites I go on, and I try to check it every day. There's also a Harry Potter RPG site I'm on daily, and a few other social media sites (but I am constricted by age. As soon as March hits, I am coming for you, Tumblr).

I really want to get into photography. It's not exactly a hobby-- mostly I just take pictures of my dog-- but I feel like if I had a good camera I could start doing something. Unfortunately, my phone is useless and I can't send any of my photos to any other devices. I really want to take part in the photography sharing threads you guys make!

I'm a total daydreamer, just not the classic type. Actually, I find it impossible to daydream in class-- believe me, I've tried. But when I'm walking the dog or on a train without a book, I like to make up movie trailers or fanfictions or possible futures for myself in my head.

I'm super psyched because SHERLOCK SEASON 4 IS SHOWING!! And the best thing is, my TV doesn't have cable, so it can only get a few channels, but Sherlock's one of them! I'm so happy.

I actually know a little bit about coding. The aforementioned Harry Potter RPG site that I go on uses a lot of BBC and HTML, and you need to know some if you want to get more fancy stuff done.

I still sleep with a stuffed animal. I can make do without her, but I like her with me.

I play piano, I've played for five or six years. It always seems like such a bother to practice until I actually start playing. I really want to make a YouTube channel just to see what others think of my music, but I don't want one until I'm thirteen because of age stuff.

I'm really picky about grammar. My creative writing teacher doesn't help-- she does an annual italics and quotation marks unit, and after the first time she taught us, I'm always super aware of if I'm following the rules. For example, did you know that series titles (such as Harry Potter) should not be italicized, but the books inside it should (like Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban)? However, titles of TV shows (such as Doctor Who) should be italicized while the names of the individual episodes (like "Blink") should be quoted.

That's all I can think of for now!

Wow, you have some awesome hobbies, St.Owl! Pokemon seems' really cool, I was watching it on Netflix once with my siblings, but haven't watched it since. Sadly, I just don't have the time. But I have to admit, Doctor Who is something I've been wanting to watch for a while now.

Also, when it comes to photography I don't believe the camera matters too much. True photography is done by the photographer, not the camera. But I understand what you mean, and I have the same kind of phone where it cannot send pics to other devices. So frustrating! But we're getting a family camera soon so I can start using that instead of school cameras.

A few years ago I had so many stuffed animals there was barely any room for me to sleep on my bed. Each one had a specific name and personality, almost like AEs do here. I would talk to my stuffed animals, give them birthdays, stare at them, and cover each one up with my blanket for bed. They meant the world to me! Then I gave them all to my four younger siblings since they really love stuffed animals.

I love grammar - and vocabulary - but I find my abilities in it quite terrible. Regardless, I do love English and I am constantly working to improve my skills.

You're right about photography. I suppose I don't mean a good camera specifically; just one of my own that functions well and can tranfer photos to other devices.

I have my own troubles with grammar! I could recite every little thing you should italicize, but I couldn't tell you how to spell immedeately. (did I get it right? Please say yes.) It's the spellings and pronounciations that get me-- a very common reader problem: you read a word and say it just to hear that it's pronounced completely differently! Actually, the antagonist of one of my books, Inconginito, is actually how I used to pronounce incognito. xD

I have the same issue with spelling and grammar! That's why I always have my trusty Grammarly with me on my pc. It's an app that checks your grammar, spelling, etc. Otherwise, I do not know what I'd do.

And pronunciation... that always gets me. For example, how I'd pronounce Hermione was Herm-ee-own-ee along with various ways. And the title of the graphic novel, Persepolis, I said as Pers-ee-pol-is instead of pers-ep-ol-is. Or butcher as but-ch-er. Like I said, pronunciation is not my thing!

-Well, like you, Ashlee, I am an AVID gamer. My games include Terraria, Minecraft, Overwatch: Orgins, Several versions of Mariokart, Stretchmo, Serveral versions of the Zelda games, etc., etc. My platforms include Wii U, Wii, DSi, 3DS, PS4, iPad, PC, and Android phone. :P You get the point.

-But I'm also an avid reader! I have over 200 books in my room-that's not including my brothers books, my schoolbooks, my mom's books, OR my dad's gaming books!! There's probably at least 1k books in our house. Geez.

-I play the violin (8 years in March) and Irish dance (7 1/2 in March), which most of you knew, but thought I'd share it anyway. :)

-Like Cho, I am homeschooled. Let the jealousy commence. XD Joking! ;)

-I enjoy writing, obviously. But I have never finished a novel. At all. Several short stories, yeah, but not an actual book. Awkward....:P I don't work well on time schedules or word count restrictions. Which might be part of why I have sent in stories to Cricket 4 or 5 times and still haven't been accepted....XD

-I adore drawing, sketching, painting, almost any type of art! I recently got a digital drawing pad, so I've gotten very into digital drawing. My very medium is most likely sketching. I'm not a big fan of abstract. Not that it's bad or anything, just that it looks like scribbles....anyway...moving on.

That's pretty much it!

Wow, I had no clue you were an avid gamer, Inktail! It seemed I was pretty much a loner when it came to gaming on the CB. I've played/play most of the games you listed, and they are all awesome. Do you get the Game Informer magazines? My dad gets them monthly and I've been collecting them when he finishes reading through. My collection of Game Informer is massive now!

I am a huge book nerd as well, but with school, I don't have much time. At my old house, we had a whole room filled with bookshelves (and our PC) that we made into a library. It was by far my favorite room in the whole house. But after we moved, we ended up having to get rid of a bunch of our books... Such a shame.

I have a violin - excluding the fact that a string snapped - but I am terrible at playing it. Currently, I am learning to play the guitar.

Homeschooled? Lucky xD I was homeschooled pretty much my whole life.

Writing and art are awesome. What genre of books do you usually do?

I can only dream in black and white- or more specifically, I don't notice most colors in my dreams, and even then they're muted. I can sort of control my dreams, and have been getting better at. My favorite thing to do is fly, but I've found my imagination is lacking... I can't go very high.

Since my dreams are lacking, I channel my creativity and imagination into my worlds. For my most recent Nanowrimo, I spent three months prior to November slowly building up a world. I'm still revising and working over it- much more than the first few months, actually, which was mostly me bouncing ideas around trying to figure out which one to run with.

When I was ten, I got an honorable mention and two first prizes in Cricket- the first prizes being a story and a poem, respectively. Recently, I haven't submitted anything, mostly due to lack of confidence in art and also just due to being distracted. It's unlikely I'd win anyway, since at ten I was at the top of the lower age group, and was therefore competing with people my age and younger, whereas now I'd be competing with people my age and older. However, I did mail something off to Stone Soup a couple of weeks ago... hopefully I'll make it in! I sent in three poems, but I hope to write a story for them at some point- I doubt I'd make it in, but it would be incredible seeing the illustrations someone came up with for my story!

I adore the rain.

I don't hate anyone- there's no one if I saw them I'd just want to punch them in the face... but I have to restrain myself from making nasty remarks to people I feel are smug or arrogant.

I don't play very many video games, but I do play some.

Please don't be discouraged by the age groups in Cricket League. Even within each group, we take age into consideration. In other words, we expect more from a 14-year-old than from an 11-year-old.

When it comes to dreams, I guess my abilities are really enhanced. I dream in color, and I can control every aspect of it. If I want a dream that I work for a secret agent society, and the world is in danger, I can, and I can incorporate people I know into that dream. To make it even more, everything is in extreme detail, and I wake up knowing exactly what happened. The sad part is, those dreams often turn into daydreaming and I'll space off at the worst of times.

I did Nanowrimo a few years ago, 50,000+ words. It was an epic story, but since then I haven't had the time to edit it, let alone do Nano again. And I've never thought of submitting stuff to Cricket or Stone Soup. In fact, I've never submitted anything until today, which was to a place for my poetry. I wonder why it never came to mind... Is there an age restriction or anything for submitting to Cricket?

That's awesome that you did so great in submitting work, though! Do keep in mind what Admin said, even in an age group, the elder are expected to do more than the younger within that group. So you still have a great chance, and I recommend you do it again. You never know, you might be published.

I got to say, I love rain as well, especially walking in it. And as for hating people, nada. I mean, to the point I want to punch them. There is only one person who could nearly cross the line of "hate", and the sad thing is, she used to be my best friend. Then there is another who drives me crazy and we argue a lot, but again he used to be one of my closest friends. What is my problem with friends? Ahhh it's insane and sad.

With friends, I think it's because you cared for them so much that it's harder when things don't go well as opposed to with someone you were never close to. I have been deeply hurt by people who used to be my best friends. But since then I've forgiven them and remained in touch but not so closely, and have made new good friends. People change. Life changes people.

There's no age restriction for Cricket League. That's why the categories are 10 and under and 11 and up. But there usually is a required theme for entries and word or line limit for stories or poems. Occasionally we do have contests with no required theme, which we call Open Theme or Anything Goes!

Thank you Admin, for your words and advice. Fortunately, it's hard for me to hold a grudge after a while. And as for Cricket submissions, I'll have to look into that. Thanks again!

I am not actuallly a cold-hearted nit-picker who loves grammar and seriousness and logic and boringness. I have a sense of humor in real life which would be hard to understand here, so please excuse my lack of niceness at times.

Also, I analyze everything I watch and read, which is why I am so nit-picky when it somes to certain things.

Facts:

-I like indie games

-I like Daft Punk

-I like Magic the Gathering

-I play one sport: Ultimant Hoopsby (A combination of ultimant Frisbee and basketball)

-I make my own techno music

-I have frequent Nerf wars with friends and family

-My new years resolution (which I will probably forget) is to submit something good to a sci-fi magazine

-I play flute, and I am pretty good, saying I have played for about 4 months

-I have a golden retriver named Watson

-My favorite favorite character is Ash

That's it!
