Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

White elephant game!

White elephant game!

So everyone who wants to play should make 4 posts:

1. A post describing the wrappings of an imaginary gift. Probably about 11 other people can sign up, but i will tell you when spots are full.

2. When I declare that spots are filled, we will choose the gift we want in the order we signed up (I will go first). If someone takes more than a day or two to claim a gift, you can skip their turn, and they can post as soon as possible.

3. When someone chooses your gift, reply to their post revealing what it is. Gifts can be something real (picturing, poem, etc.) or something virtual (a yacht, the moon, a barrel of pudding, etc.). Also reveal your identity.

4. A thank you note, obviously! That's only polite.

Rules:

1. Post under an alias, but don't guess who other players are! The exception: You can guess me. I think it's pretty obvious, I'm not even trying to disguise my writing style, but who knows...

2. Wrap your gift creatively!

3. Don't reveal your own identy until someone claims your gift! If the present you choose turns out to be a picturing, or something else that requires your CB identy, you can make an exception, or simply wait until your gift is claimed and everyone knows who you are.

4. Remember to post!

5. Have a very very merry Christmas!

My gift is about 3" by 6" by 2". It is wrapped in peacock feathers and golden ribbon (like, actual gold). Many have sought this gift, but whenever anyone other than me reaches out for it, the feathers unfold into wings and it flies just out of their reach... poor them.

Here you go, Glowing Candle! Sorry it took a while.

You stare at the large sphere with a sparkly indigo bow on top. You watch the strings of Christmass lights sparkle. You are so excited to open it! You begin poking it and prodding it and feeling for an opening in the poetry/sheet music covering, but you find nothing. How are you supposed to open the gift if it can't be opened?

Maybe there's a clue hidden in the poems. Sure enough, after some enlightening poetry-reading, you notice a poem in noteicably bold font titled "How to Open a Present." You are disappointed when the poem is a confusing, abstract array of words about a sewing needle being left alonne to poke into the snow. It overused the word "left. and it didn't even make sense, or have anything to do with opening presents. What happened to giving clear instructions?

Left...left...left...to the left!

You peer intently at the string of lights to the left of the poem and find a long needle woven into the cord. You postion the needle over a spot on the sphere, feeling sorry that you have to deflate it and destroy the poems, but it must be done. You stab it into the sphere, and jump back with surprise as the poems suddenly rip themselves off the sphere and fly around you like paper airplanes. So you get to keep the poems and the present underne-

It isn't over. There's another layer, another sphere. It appears to be an exercise ball. You poke it (like you've been doing for the past half hour). So this is what was giving the present its...poke-able quality. You stab it with the needle, and gasp as it disintegrates. Not deflates. Disintegrates, its tiny blue remains blowing away.

Aaaaaaand there's another layer. Of course. The poems rustle and you can hear them gathering behind you like a flock of birds, waiting for you to finish opening the present.

It's a deep green and looks suspiciously like a balloon. You poke it with the needle. Pop! Definitely a balloon.

Yet another sphere beneath, this one significantly smaller. It's striped with red and green. It feels hard and plastic. Looks like the final layer! Satisfied, you stab it with the needle.

Nothing.

You rotate the sphere and spot a hole. You put the needle into the hole and hear a clicking sound, like a key being unlocked. The top of the sphere comes off, reminding you of an Easter egg.

Inside is a rolled-up sheet of paper with a large sticky note that reads:

Greetings, Glowing Candle!

Happy Holidays! I hope you enjoyed unwrapping your present. They say it's what's on the inside that matters, but why not makes the outside fun too! Anyway, here is your gift. It's a drawing of a gingerbread house against a peppermint sunset. This cozy cottage includes gingerbread (duh), M&Ms, icing, candy cane, gumballs, light-up lemon drops, gum drops, and a chimney that spews cotton candy. Who knows, maybe this drawing exists somewhere...maybe, if you wish hard enough, it will appear in your CB house! Or be your CB house. Whatever your imagination decides to do with it, I hope you like the drawing.

Sincerely, Owlgirl :) That's right, it was me!

You carefully unwrap the gift, sliding off the ribbon, untaping it at both ends, and gently laying the paper aside. As you do so, you catch a glimpse of something out of the corner of your eye, but then it's gone. The gift is revealed to be a scroll. You unroll said scroll, and read the following words.

White Christmas is to be given one free written CBer picturing, and one free Avatar Creator picturing from the Avatar Creator of their choosing. Options for the Avatar Creator include Dark Fairy, Deck of Cards Queen, Star Wars, or Anime Avatar Creator. Please reveal your identity so I may better picture you.

Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! Prepare to be pictured!

I believe I am to reveal myself now, so drumroll please! I am the exciting, the enigmatic, the saying a bunch of adjectives in a row, Mirax T.!

Here's your written picturing. It's short, but I hope you like it.

Wings flapping forcefully, a girl take flight on a deserted beach. Her long red hair streams behind her as she flies, and there's a gleam in her eyes that shows her joy. At first she's unsteady in the air, but gradually she becomes more confident. She lets out a cry of pure exhilaration as she rises higher and higher, then suddenly lets herself fall, nearly crashing to the ground, before she again ascends. Her wings are a kaleidoscope of colors, shifting and changing as she flies. Blue feathers gradually change to green, and then the green bends into yellow, red, purple, and a thousand other shades. She rises above the beach, until she's level with the clouds, and takes in the view. The sea, endless and magestic, it's great waves crashing against the shore, and the coast, long and thin, and speckled with green, the beach ending against a great cliff. Glancing once more towards the water, she smiles, and flies off over the blue blue ocean.

And here's your other picturing:

Sorry it took so long, here's your written picturing!

Shoshanna took the brush in her hand, and smeared it across the canvas. The blue streak it left behind shimmered in the sunlight. The girl smiled, then took out a straw and began to blow on the wet paint. It started flying everywhere, azure droplets scattering over the canvas. A few droplets landed on her T-shirt, but Shoshanna didn't mind. Her pretty chestnut brown hair was done up into a messy bun, and she had on ripped up blue jeans, of an origin no one knew. Her blue eyes, the same color as the paint, sparkled with exitment. She put away here paints, satisfied with her work of art, and ran out the door. As the wind blew through wisps of her hair, she spread her arms wide. The sun was shining, not a cloud in the sky, and the flowers seemed to dance and all but sing. Shoshanna picked up the old, green metal watering can, and let it pour onto the plants. They seemed to rejoice for the refreshing drink, their petals outstretched like so many arms. Shoshanna turned to the trail she always loved to hike, and smiled. She was going to discover something great today, she thought as she walked off toward the hill.

Enjoy! Sorry if I forgot anything or left anything out!
