Embers in the Ashes: The Hobbit. A little mysterious, lighthearted, a lot of fun.

Tux: The Ramona series, by Beverly Cleary. Those books are a little young, but they are excellently written, and very entertaining, with just a little bit of ridiculousness thrown in for good measure.
