Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Oh, geez. I

Oh, geez. I just went over to Cicada, the magazine from Cricket media for teens 14 and up. I read just 1 comment and saw AT LEAST four really, really bad curse words. Ugh. Won't be going there again.

A long time ago I tried to write a ski lodge, but it didn't go so well :P. Here are a bunch of tips that I think would have helped me:

- Make a unique premise that will catch peoples' interest

- Kind of know loosely what is going to happen before you start

- Don't give up! Keep writing your ski lodge so it will not die out like 80% do after the second day.

- People like dramatic deaths. Try to make each death unique and somewhat violent, but don't go into any gruesome details.

- Keep the story moving, the deaths coming. When I started my ski lodge it took about three boring days to get to the first death, and by that time everyone had lost interest!

- Get inside the murderer's head a little bit. (IE something like "'But who could have hidden her body so well it would be impossible to find?' wondered ___. I could, thought the murderer."). This makes it more suspenseful.

- Have a murderer in mind from the beginning.

Hope some of those help :)!

Yeah, Cicada's really intense from what I've heard. Not planning to check it out any time soon. As for ski lodges? I'm not that good at them. . . I prefer CB stories. All I can say is: try to create a plot outside of the murderning so that the story is unique and not a cookie-cutter murder mystery.

Do they have Admins at the Cicada place?

Yep! There are admins. The Cicada writers are allowed to swear and talk about older things that we don't allow on the CB. ~Admin

Oh yeah... Cicada definitely holds some of the more . . . free-languaged teens.

If you go on several teen websites, you'll see a lot of that.

As for writing a ski lodge, I'd say get the CBers into a large, worry-free place (though that's kinda cliche), pick a murderer (or even murderers), and give them a motive. Then use some random materials to make them kill them and stuff.

Hooray for bad advice.

I honestly have no idea how to write suspense or stuff.
