Poetry Contest!

Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Poetry Contest!

Poetry Contest!

I know this should go in the Inkwell, but I have  a feeling that it will die really fast if it's there.

So, as the name says, this is a poetry contest. There will be two levels, because I want more people to have a chance to win. I'll be in the second level, because I honestly don't stand a chance against some of you. The first level will be for the masters of writing, and the second level will be for us apprentices to have a shot, too.

So I'm entering the lower level, and I'll judge the higher level.

Masters of writing, your theme for your poem is:

Sorrow.

Can be free verse, rhyme, haiku, anything as long as it has to do with sorrow.

@ Cho Chang:

You can post the theme for next week's contest now, if you want.

Okay then, I will.

Fire. Anything to do with fire. Amaze me! Next week ...

May I judge higher?

Yes! Of course.

ONE MORE ANNOUNCEMENT:

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY WON THE LAST WEEK'S CONTEST, YOU CANNOT ENTER THE NEXT ONE. YOU HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT ONE IS OVER, THEN YOU CAN ENTER THE NEXT NEXT ONE.

Sorry if that was unclear.

Durin's Bane, I think I've missed my chance for the sorrow theme. I guess I'll try for Fire, (great choice, Cho) but I can't get it here until next Saturday. Will it still be open then? I sure hope so O.o ;)

I'm going to give the masters a challenge next week! The theme is...silence! That's right, you've got to right about a silent stillness. Maybe something in nature, like the silence right before it rains, or the silence that hangs over you when you're feeling sad. Be creative!

*Rushes in, panting* Hope this works! It's for the second level.

Ink of My Soul

With an excited gasp

I pulled you off the shelf

Unlocked your golden gates

And left my heart within

To travel to times past-

Slay fire-breathing beasts,

Wield a magic sword

Alongside knights in shining armour.

Or chose a magic wand

And conjure wild beasts

Or heart-wound spells

Live in a secret world.

Or sail along the shores

Of a masterpiece spun with words

See mystical, picturesque sights

Unreachable by human transportation.

You are my secret door

To the trails

Of my mind

The lantern of an explorer

The kindling of a fireplace.

On the bitterest of days

You melt my heart

Like ribbons of fire

Or toasty-warm gloves.

The dearest, closest

Friend-

Always there for me.

Pages of my heart

Ink of my soul.

Ever since the day

That I pulled you off the shelf

Unlocked your golden gates

And let my heart within.

Okay, here are the results for the higher level:

First Place:

Ruby M.

Second Place:

Amber

Third Place:

Cho Chang

THESE THREE PEOPLE CANNOT ENTER THE NEXT CONTEST, BECAUSE THEY WON THIS ONE. THEY CAN ENTER THE CONTEST THAT TAKES PLACE THE WEEK AFTER THE NEXT ONE, JUST NOT YHE CONTEST AFTER THE ONE THEY WON.

If you didn't win, that just means that you'll get another chance, because these people aren't entering this week's contest.
