Hmm...here are two things I've read recently--

The Twistrose Key by Tone Almhjell (Narnia-esque) 

The Ropemaker by Peter Dickinson (good classic fantasy, nothing weird or contraversial about it) 

These are all slightly obscure, but worth a read.

And of course, my recommendation staples:

Everything by Robin McKinley

Everything by Phillip Pullman

Everything by Gail Carson Levine

Everything by J.R.R. Tolkien

6. Anything by Margaret Peterson Haddix
