From what I remember after having read the Son of Neptune a couple years ago, gryphons are monsters that steal gold and attack people. Percy defeated them by getting a Hyperborean to freeze them with his breath. Why exactly should they be rescued now???

Because, they are babies, and if my plan to train them works, they will no longer do the evil deeds you describe.

In a book I am writing, gryphons are good, sort of like flying sphinxes with more mercy...
@ Chocaboookaholic: The craziest thing just ran through my head right now, and I'm pretty sure that in the light of day it'll look sooo very corny, but.....if you ever wanted a slogan/motto-thingy, it could be the song Boom-Chicka-Boom-Boom, but with "Book" intead of "Boom" and "Choca" instead of "Chicka". As I said, probably too corny, but just in case...there it is for ya!

Do the dwarves have any particular weaknesses you could use to your advantage?
Captha says "gphm", that could almost be mistaken for "gryphon", if you squint!

Pretend to be a dwarf and infiltrate their defenses, then run a rescue mission from the inside.

Thank you for all your feedback! My plan has gone beautifully, except for some elders that want to stick to the old ways, such as Griselda the warty. What stubbornness!
