Sports. Does anyone

Sports. Does anyone here do them (including Admins)? I go to gymnastics every Wednesday. It is a lot of fun.

I try to swim at least twice a week in winter (at our beatiful Y aquatic center) and more in the summer. And whenever conditions are right I like to cross-country ski.

I dance ballet and pointe. (Yes, those count as a sport!) I also did volleyball this past season. In the winter, I like to snowshoe and ski, but in the summer, I like to go swimming and kayaking.

I'm not athletic at all, but I do Cross Country (running) every Tuesday and Friday. It is a lot of fun, since you can join even if you aren't very athletic. Our coach is very motivating. I loved doing races too. Our season is over but we still have practice, which is usually one or two miles around the neighborhood.

I'm NOT athletic at all, but archery is my sport! I'm not with a professional team, I don't even have an instructor. I just head outside, set up a target, and practice until my fingers turn sore! Though I've hardly been able to practice at all this school year, I've been so busy.

I do cross country and archery. Same as BHR, I have no instructor and just set up a target in my backyard (I don't have a lot of neighbors upstate no need to worry). And yeah I haven't really been able to practice :P

Seriously?! I haven't really met anyone else who does archery! Archer to Archer question: Do you use a finger guard? After I was practicing too long, and made my fingers swell, she insisted I wear one. If so, what kind of finger guard do you use? The one I have keeps throwing my aim off, so I'm hardly hitting the target. I want to try to find a glove type one, but so far I haven't been able to. Any suggestions?

Sorry, I meant my mom made me wear a finger guard.

I've been meaning to get a finger guard because my fingers really hurt after shooting some arrows for half and hour or more. I haven't gotten any yet but I'll try and research them. What I suggest though is to maybe move the bow to the left or the right, testing where to shoot with your finger guards. That's what I do since I don't have a teacher. Note to self: Research about archery...

Mine really hurt too. I was shooting for about an hour straight when my fingers became swollen and slightly blue. I really recommend you look for one, just because it can hurt your hand, and they're in general, not too expensive. Do you use an armguard? I went ahead and got one when I got my fingerguard cause I'd hit my arm a few times, causing nasty bruising. But I found out they do make a glove style fingerguard that covers your pointer, middle, and ring fingers. I can't tell if that would be good or not. But your right, I should try adjusting my aim. I'll try that next time I'm out shooting.

What kind of bow do you use? I have two, both a compound and a recurve. But they're pretty much beginner bows. I prefer my recurve, cause the compound was really hard to shoot. Plus, I in general like the look of the recurve better! Though if I ever get serious, I'll probably go to a compound, since it has more force behind it.

In the spring I'll start using my bow and arrows more often but right now it's sort of freezing. I'll talk to my dad about getting finger guards since we've been meaning to.

I have a long bow and a compound bow. I haven't been able to use to compound much but I do think they're easier to pull back. The long bow is pretty cool too and is like the classic English bows. I haven't used a recurve although they look great (like Katniss's).

Yeah, we're freezing too! :) I'll probably shoot more in the spring as well.

I've heard about longbows! I've never seen one up close, let alone shot one. What are they like? How hard is it to shoot, and how much force do they have behind them? Recurves are really nice! I love mine. They do look cool (I slung mine over my back for my Halloween costume!), and they're pretty easy to shoot. From what I've seen of pictures, they're like longbows. Mine has a leveler, so I don't have to lay the arrow on my hand, which is nice.

They're not too hard to pull back; I think it's like the recurve. It doesn't have a pulley like the compound or anything. And I really need a leveler for my long bow. It got thrown out with the package because my dad thought that I didn't need the package. *sighs* At least I have a leveler for my compound.

Spammie says vrox. Hmmm.... a vixen fox? I've seen a fox before dashing across the road before and that was pretty cool, along with seeing fox prints on our frozen pond.

From what I've seen, I think longbows are like recurves too. Just, well, longer. Though my recurve is nearly the same height as me! Oops! My dad has done things like that. Sorry. So then you have to lay the arrow on your hand? That sounds a little painful. I'd imagine it might rub your hand raw over time.

What kind of arrows do you use? I have some wooden (though the last time I was shooting, the tip broke off the wooden one, so now it's useless), and I think the others are fiberglass. I like the fiberglass better, because they have more weight to them, helping to shoot straighter. The wooden ones are too light. Plus, fiberglass doesn't break so easily!

I guess I'll just have to buy another leveler if I can. And the arrow mostly rubs my hands, occasionally my hand. The arrows I have are relatively light and I think they're fiberglass or plastic. I get mine from Dick's Sporting Goods. And my bows are big, but not that big because I can't pull back really big bows. My long bow is a Lil' Sioux (it's not really little but it's meant for beginners) and my other compound is a Lil' Banshee (I was originally going to have a bigger one but I just couldn't pull it back). As for getting on the target, I have a foam once which needs to be replaced soon. I get on the outer rim of the target most of the time, but one time I got really close to a bulls-eye! My brother's the one that got bulls-eye though :P Since he's been doing archery longer than I have.

...Whoa that was long! I've got to go to school at this point but I'll be back later in the afternoon.

My compound is a Banshee, though I don't know if it's the same kind. It's REALLY hard to pull back though, so I prefer my recurve. Still no time to practice though. I've got a foam target too, though I haven't used it much. I used to just tack up a board and shoot at that! My arrows are fiberglass, and I like that better than wood. One of my wooden arrows broke recently anyway, so I prefer fiberglass. It's light, but not too light. It's got good aim too.
