Right, so, Pratchett,
Chatterbox: Blab About Books
Most Overrated books/authors in THE UNIVERSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Right, so, Pratchett,...
Right, so, Pratchett, Rowling, Tolkien. End of story.
WHY?
Pratchett tries to be funny and usually fails. And who wants to read about Death? And the chapterlessness of his books is just plain old confusing!!!!
Rowling is too annoying. I mean, Harry Potter? That's the soppiest name ever.
And Tolkien. The writing is all confusing and annoying. It's all 'Aragorn did this and then Legolas did that and then lo Frodo was dead (I wish) and peep peep peep. I hate it, in the order from most to least:
Tolkien
Pratchett
Rowling.

So, I know I posted here before, but I needed to write this: I think anyone who thinks Rick Rioridan is a good author and that The Lightning Thief is a marginally interesting book, is loony. (Sorry to those RR fans).
Basically, I think the plot is boring (Lighting bolt stolen, seriously?) and after reading the first paragraph (about the whole "half-blood" thing (Harry Potter much?)) I just shut the book and din't look twice at it.
Sorry for this ridiculous ramble, but after learning that Percy Jacson and the Olympians is a New York Times bestseller, I just...needed to rant.

well, I guess I am loony, because I didn't think that The Lightning Thief had a boring plot. Actually, when I first picked up the book I did the same thing as you, I looked at the chapter names and read the first paragraph, and thought that it was stupid. Then, I picked it back up after a while, and I really liked it. Also,it sounds like you didn't finish it, so how do you know that you will think that the plot is boring if you don't read it?

It's... entertaining, but it definitely isn't a masterpiece. Since it's being treated so much like one, you may be right to put it in the "most overrated" category.

I like Percy Jackson, like A LOT.
I don't feel like ranting right now, but Elizabeth M., my teddy bear is OK, well sorta. I take out all my ranting on my teddy bear ;) Poor teddy bear... Haha

Allow me to point out that while all books have their faults, it is actually quite easy to overlook them and enjoy the book anyway.
The only thing that I can't deal with is a combination of horrible/ridiculous plot, not well thought out characters, and, I quote TNO, "florid writing," (on Christopher Paolini).
Something that slightly bothers me when other people talk about fantasy books. "That's stupid. It's not possible."
WELL, OF COURSE IT'S NOT POSSIBLE! OF COURSE IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE! IT'S CALLED FANTASY FOR A REASON!

I beg to differ, SC, but I believe it was me, Piper C, that thought Christopher Paolini's writing was "florid."

It was you? Sorry! My memory is too crammed with science facts.
Then TNO said something about it being "sacharine." (I know I spelled that wrong.)

Saccharine. Two C's. :)
