Steampunk. Who likes?...
Steampunk. Who likes? What's your favorites?
My favorite elements of steampunk include:
A real "old-world" feel
Mechanical creations- but nothing modern
A plot that doesn't really have a definite antagonist- those are better, somehow
"Proper" people fall in love with "normal" people
Et cetera.

I does! I think I have actually read the book you are referring to- my favorite short in there is Deadwood, but I also liked Rude Mechanicals.

Ooh! Ooh! Me! /raises hand, waving wildly/
I like that book you're talking about! The one with all the short stories in it, right? I liked Tick, Tick, Boom. A lot. And King of Greenlight City. But it was sooo sad..... /trails off, staring melodramatically into the far mid-distance/
BUT OH WELL!

I'm not sure. I've never heard of it before. Would the Brian Selznick book about Hugo Cabret and The Inquisitor's Apprentice count? Because then I like it.

I'd think HC is pretty steampunk (automatons? clockwork? HECK YES), but the thing about steampunk is that while it's fairly well defined there's not always a consensus on which works are steampunk, and categories like clockpunk just make everything more confusing.

Speaking of Hugo Cabret, *random question* have you read Wonderstruck?
=^..^=

Yes! <3

I lurf steampunk. Well, I lurf writing it. Reading it... not so much. (Mechanics are confusing *cough*Leviathan*cough*) My NaNo's a half-steampunk. It's got the 'steam' era part down to a pat and there's frequent use of guns... not so much of the 'punk' part though. But I've still got 15 more days so maybe, just maybe I might get some mechaniks in...

I love Leviathan!
~Reads, doesn't write it~ But I do try... they just kind of spin off somewhere into the realm of biopunk, which is cool, but not nearly as cool as steampunk.
Garthwumpian Flopp says xeko. Hey, that's cool! Sounds like some sort of character name... Thank you for my inspiration, Garth! ~Starts scribbling wildly~

The "punk" in steampunk is just a spin-off from cyberpunk and doen't really pertain to the genre. :)

OK, I lovee steampunk then!

Yay! /clapclapclap/
I feel like a little kid...
Garthwumpian Flopp says xzux. See, I told you he liked x's! It's like the eighteenth time I've gotten one that starts with an x. AutoComplete has a looong list when I hit x.

:)
I just recently got into steampunk and I've been doing tons of writing, drawing and costuming for it, but I haven't found any books. Hey, do any of you guys have suggestions? :D
(December 9, 2011 - 6:59 pm)
Leviathan. Definitely.
Airborn... that one was good. But I didn't like Skybreaker.
Agatha H. and the Airship City. Novel form of the webcomic Girl Genius.

I doodle random steampunk cosplay stuff. I actually would lurf to actually create some of my cosplay someday... /floats off with sparkly eyes/
Garthwumpian Flopp says wfpx. Like wolfpox? Hmm... I wonder...
