Chatterbox: Blab About Books

The Book Thief
As a general...

As a general rule, I tend to stay away from "young adult" fiction. Still, I had heard "The Book Thief" was a wonderful book, so I thought I'd give it a chance. Long story short? I loved it. Anyone one else read this? If not, I'd highly recommend it.

I'm still in the middle of it (pg 416) but I've loved it so far.  There are so many elegant sentences and vivid images and unique ideas that make me think.  And I love books like that.  So yes I highly recommend it as well!

I read it recently. It's so moving and the author writes in such a beautiful confusing way... I cried at the end. I know I'm a total wimp, yet I stayed up till way past one in the morning sobbing my eyes out. It needs a Newberry or something.

It. Is. Amazing. One of my favorite books ever. By far. As in, probably in the top 10. Despite the fact that I have no real idea of what my top 10 are.

I just finished this. My eyes got wet in some parts but I never actually cried much. Maybe that had something to do with reading in the family room where my parents were...

My favourite characters were Liesel, Rudy, Rosa, Papa, and Ilsa. You guys?

Thank you, Mathilda and other Chatterboxers who have recommended this book. I just finished reading it. It is one of the very best, most powerful books I've ever read. It is so beautifully written. I love books like this that teach me about people, humanity, history, and life--and make me think. Knowing that the book is based upon real circumstances, I wonder how I would have reacted in each character's position. I learned about the point of view of the German people under Adolf Hitler. Most other books I've read about WWII have been from the point of view of Jewish people or the Allies.

I appreciated most of the characters, but especially Liesel and Hans. And Max.

OK.  I got it out of the library.  I haven't read it yet, though.  Right now, I'm reading Beatle Meets Destiny.

I think I liked Liesel, Hans, Max and Rudi the best.

I began to cry when I noticed that the bombs were falling and no one would survive. I know, I'm a wimp. :)
