Welcome, SusyQ and Shyguy. :) We are all friendly here on Chatterbox, so don't be scared to join/start threads. And don't be scared to admit it if you have something different about you (I'm not saying you do or that you have to admit it, just letting you know) because everyone's different, and as another (wise) Chatterboxer once said: "A certain amount of oddness is required to survive on Chatterbox." :)

To answer your question, SusyQ, I love to read fantasy, sci-fi, and pretty much anything else fiction.

To quote a well known movie character:

"May the force be with you." ;)

Velcome to zee CB! *extravagant bow*

Um, let's see, types of books... In no particular order...

- Fantasy/Science Fiction. (Can I hear a Discworld? What about a Harry Potter?)

- Historical fiction.

- Detective fiction (classic, golden age, hardboiled, whatever) ((But not, on the whole, modern crime fiction, which tends not to have the same flair. Somehow, in the fictitious world, putting in genetics and DNA testing rather detracts from the charm.))

- 1800's fiction.

- Shakespeare.

- Scripts and librettos (Rule of thumb: If the script is by Hugh Wheeler, George Furth, or Arthur Laurents IT IS AMAZING AND YOU MUST READ IT NOW. Goes double if it's a musical and Sondheim wrote the music/lyrics)

- 741.5. (Charles Addams, Bill Watterson, Gary Larson...)

- The entirety of the 800's. (literature)

- The 360's. (social sciences)

- The 610's, with emphasis on 616. (medicine, diseases)

((No, I don't do inventory in a library. Whatever gave you that idea?))

- (intelligently written) children's books. I'm an adult now and I'm allowed to say that. (This includes things like Mary Poppins, Chris Van Alsburg, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, Bernadette Peters [seriously most adorable children's books ever y/y?], et cetera.)

- (intelligently written) satire.

- Dystopian fiction

Oh, I'm so happy you know Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle! She was a favorite in our family! Especially the original book. Some of the later ones weren't as good.

@TNO: Squee! Finally, another Far Side fan! My two favorites: "We've tried everything and you still won't talk. Everything, that is, except Mr.Thingy." "The golden arches! The golden arches got me!"

@WritingWarrior

I was looking through a book of Far Side comics with my friend, and the 'Golden Arches' one came up.  I didn't get it.  My friend had to explain it to me.  I finally got it now!!  :)

My favoite is the Ice Crusades, because I'm a big figure-skating fan. (It's a takeoff on the old Ice Capades.)

Welcome! It's nice to meet you. We do know each other pretty well, but we're not at all exclusive and look forward to getting to know you, too. We were all new here once.

I love mixed genres (historical science fantasy, for example), fasntasy, zoology, more general biology/nature, historical fiction, science fiction, classics, mythology, psychology, non-biological science, poetry, and history, in that order. I really love them all. Occasionally, I'll read something else if it looks really, really good. I'm obsessed with reading and animals/nature and science, so of course I read lots of zoology books; I just bought 19. I thought it was only 17, but I was wrong. They're really good! I'm especially obsessed with microscopic animals called tardigrades; they can survive all sorts of amazing things! They've even been sent to space without any protective gear and survived that!

I definitely recommend Uprising by Margaret Peterson Haddix. It's a great book about the Triangle Shirtwaist factory the 1900s. I LOVED it. You could also try Ella Enchanted by Gail Carsone Levine if you like princess-type books.
