Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Help, Please!
I have run...

I have run out of good books to read. I mostly read fantasy (!!!!!FANTASY!!!!!), and I have run out of good fantasy. I have read:

The Inheritance Cycle (the available books) (Chris Paolini)

Harry Potter (J. K. Rowling)

The Circle of Magic (Tamora Peirce)

And a bunch of others that I honestly just can't think of at the moment. So, any recommendations?

Anything by Lloyd Alexander.

Who is Lloyd Alexander?

Lloyd Alexander (January 30, 1924 – May 17, 2007) was a widely influential American author of more than forty books, mostl yfantasy novels for children and adolescents, as well as several adult books. His most famous contribution to the field of children's literature is the fantasy series The Chronicles of Prydain. The concluding book of the series, The High King, was awarded the Newbery Medal in 1969. Alexander's other books have also won multiple National Book Awards. He was also a member of Cricket's editorial board from its founding in 1973 until his death and it was he who most often expressed the voice of Old Cricket on the last page of the magazine. Here's a partial list of his books:

 The Chronicle of Prydain:

  • The Drackenberg Adventure (1988)

He was beloved by everybuggy in Cricket Country and is sadly missed by all . . . but he lives on in his wonderful stories!

I really enjoyed The Phantom Tollbooth. I thought it was a really good book, and funny, too. It taught me not to jump to Conclusions. :-)

I love The Phantom Tollbooth! I've noticed that it's really hard to explain to someone who has never read it :)

By the way: For anyone who is looking up books, there's an internet page called WorldCat. It's this huge catalogue and you can basically find everything in the world.

So, Jess, if you wanted fantasy books you'd put in Fantasy Young Adult/Elementry. It's a great website!

That's great, but I don't have free access to the internet. So, thanks, that sounds awesome and I'd love to try it, but I can't.

I think I have read The Phantom Tollbooth about six times and then I think I have listened to it the same number of times. I think someone already suggested this, but I am not sure so I will just go ahead and suggest The Kane Chronicles. They are really good. There are two books out right now . The first one is The Red Pyramid and the second one which only came out May 3rd is The Throne of Fire. It's going to be torture to have to wait another year for the next book, but it must be really hard to write about a thousand pages, equaling two books, in a year and still take time for your family.

Since you've read The Circle of Magic you should read The Circle Opens which is another series about the same characters. Also, just go to the library and see what you can find by Tamora Pierce; everything that I've read so far by her has been amazing! If you want actual books I can give another time but I've been on the computer for too long.Undecided

My favorite book of all time would be either The Sisters Grimm by Micheal Buckley or Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. Actually, anything by Gail Carson Levine is bound to be amazing. (Except The Two Princesses of Bamarre, that was WAY too sad!) I also liked May Bird by Jodi Lynn Anderson, Pure Dead Magic by Debi Gliori (a very strange book), Magyk by Angie Sage, and way too many more to count!!

I agree about the Phantom Tollbooth, definitely a great book. You'll never think the same way about words again!
