Chatterbox: Blab About Books
Public Libraries vs. Book Stores
I was just...
I was just wondering, how many Chatterboxers liked to go to the public library instead of buying books.
I personally like to go to the library.
Good topic, Choco! I love going to the library. I remember weekly trips to the library from about age four with my two older sisters. I felt like the richest kid in the world, selecting whatever books I wanted from the hundreds on the shelves. Then it was so exciting to plunk down on the sofa back home with the new ones each week.

I prefer libraries more than bookstores because the books are free to borrow and I'm not obssessively careful with the books since they're not mine. Also, in libraries, there's normally a wide variety of books meaning a bunch of "hidden gems" but in bookstores, the books you're most likely to pick up are the newer-ish or more popular books because they're the most highly-promoted. :)

I love public libraries! I go to mine every week. What I love is, is that I don't have to spend any money and there's always a huge vareiety. Also I check out the magazines and stuff, that's also cool. I basically go to the bookstore to buy things for a birthday party or something!

I generally prefer the library since it's free, unless there's a specific book I want that they don't have--but in that case, I often order books online, because they can have much lower prices. Besides, occasionally there'll be a book that isn't at any local library or bookstore, so I have to order it online.

It kind of goes either way with me. If there's a newer book I want (e.g. Kingdom Keepers IV), I go to the bookstore. If I want an older book or just want I book in general, I go to the library.

Well if my favorite bookstore hadn't closed down I would say bookstore, but since it did I prefer the library, particularly ours because it's small and everything is so familiar, even the people. I don't really like the bigger ones even if they have more books because they usually have more people and are a lot more noisy. My favorite bookstore was called The Cat And Mouse. ( I am pretty sure that was it.) It was a one of a kind bookstore and pretty small. It had a liittle children's corner with this little stage that had a rocking chair on it. (I think they had a story hour.) The walls were painted with characters from classic children's literature like Peter Rabbit and Winne-The-Pooh. It was great, but it didn't get enough business so it shut down.

Great subject idea! I generally prefer libraries, but just because I don't often have much money to spend. (Having to pay for several tanks of gerbils can really put a dent in your spending money.)

Libraries! They are free and they have movies. Plus they have stuff you can go to like seminars and plays.
Kat, it's interesting to otheres to have a general idea where Chatterboxers are from. We don't ask for anything specific.
