Soo...because I am
Chatterbox: Blab About Books
Soo...because I am reading a very large number of classics at the moment (technically rereading; most of them I've read before), I'm just curious to know--does anybody else read classics? And by classics, I mean things like Les Miserables and Robinson Crusoe. At the moment, I'm reading Les Miserables by Victor Hugo (aaaaahhhh), Lassie Come-Home by Eric Knight, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, Misty of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry, Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery, and one you probably haven't heard of: Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undsen. I've also read The Sword in the Stone, Stuart Little, Black Beauty, Peter Pan, Little Women...quite a few, actually.
The obsession with classics is kind of a thing my dad encouraged, and I am very grateful for it. Anybody who thinks classics are boring has obviously never read any--they might not be as action-packed and thrilling as modern books, but the quality and writing style has a unique charm to it, and it really, really helps with vocabulary and grammar.
So, does anybody else love classics, too? Or is it just me? Waiting patiently for your responses--tell me all about the ones you've read! Admins, you join in, too! (And no, the abridged versions don't count-yuck!)
Andy P. C. says bogd. He's bogged down. Andy? Where are you?!

P.S. Yes, I am aware that I made a classics thread a while ago, but by now it's probably on the tenth page at the very least.
Yes, I love the classics! The Secret Garden, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Rebecca, Les Miserables--a great story is eternal!

I have. I did not like it. It was one of those books that you can't put down, but really hate. I don't know, maybe it was because I didn't like reading about the dark side of people or something, but it's not one of my favorites. I do see how other people would like it and it could become a classic, though.
I've read: Jane Eyre, The Secret Garden, The Little Princess, Peter Pan, Treasure Island, half of Oliver Twist (until it started getting even more confusing and about Fagan instead of Oliver) Robin Hood, A Christmas Carol, Black Beauty, The Railway Children, Around The World In Eighty Days, The Jungle Book (And Other Stories), The Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, A Separate Peace (obviously), Anne Of Green Gables (and subsequent Anne books), Little Women, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, The Fellowship Of The Ring, The Two Towers, and so far half of The Return Of The King.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head, and I loved them all except for Oliver Twist, Black Beauty, The Jungle Book was okay, and we've already been over ASP. I plan to compile a more exhaustive list of classics soon and read them over the summer.
Does anyone else make themselves summer book lists of things you'd like to read?

I'll make really, really long lists of books in my head and read some of them, but others might wait for years. Not just in summer, either.
I've also read Journey to the Center of the Earth.

I make summer reading lists. And I also love the classics; they are so fantstic. I like Oliver Twist, Peter Pan and Moby Dick (I read that one abridged) and Alice in Wonderland. I also enjoyed The Hounds of the Baskervilles. I hated The Jungle Book and Robin Hood. Has anyone read The Halloween Tree? I love that book; it is SOOOOOOOO good. I suggest it to pretty much everyone.

Pride and Prejuduce, Sherlock Holmes, Little Women, Vanity Fair, aka., all the ones they've made movies out of. *Is guilty* But hey, the movies are good to, and most stick to the books, wickh is why I like them :) (plus they're faster paced, Jane Austen is good, but LONG) Now I'm in the mood for all those movies, and I only own 2 of them!!!

@ Brynne-- I was on 3rd chapter and I got really confused(Oliver Twist) that's why I'm reading books with similar language. My goal is to read Oliver.

@ Brynne-- I liked it... I can't explain why. I don't really make summer reading lists but I join our library's reading program in the summer! Does anyone do that?

It depends on the classic, but for the most part I really enjoy classics. I loved Jane Eyre and The House of the Seven Gables but found Black Beauty rather boring, as was the case with Peter Pan. Anne of Green Gables was one of my favorite books when I was younger. I hated Little Women, however. Oh, wait, that was probably just because I read it when I was about 8 and it was abridged. Never mind, I guess I haven't read it then.
Do you like the rewrites of classics as well? (i.e. Jane Slayre, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, etc.) I thought that they were well written and quite enjoyable, for the most part.
Oh yes, and they were creepy.

I plan to read Jane Eyre soon. I just never got around to it for some reason. I've read The Looking Glass Wars trilogy, though; many people here have. It's very good. I've been meaning to write Little House In Space for a while now, but I've been too busy; I think it might have to wait until summer. Oh, and by the way, if you're who I think you might be, I'm Bibliophile. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I don't know you, so never mind.
