When I get the chance to buy English books, I would like to get some good ones. A lot of the books you guys have mentioned I have never read before. So, do you have any suggestions on must reads?

I suggest....
1. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Historical fiction- takes place during World War Two. Completely cryable. Wonderfully written. One of my favorites.
2. The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud. Fantasy. The first in a amazingly addictive and witty trilogy with rounded characters. I've read this series three times.
3. Once again, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. SciFi/Suspense. The first in a thrilling trilogy of suspense, survival, and a bit of love. And I agree, it depends how much violence you can stomach.
4. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. (You might've read that already; many people have) Mythology/fiction. The first of a hilarious, action-packed series.
5. The Merchant of Death by D.J. MacHale. (It's a lot more light-hearted than the title sounds. I reccomend this to anyone who likes the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. If you didn't particularly like that, then this series is probably not your cup of tea) Fantasy, I think. The first installment of a compelling, funny series that includes ten rather lengthy books. It has a great villain, though.
6. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling. (I know, this has already been suggested. Sorry.) Fantasy. The first of seven magical, clever, well-written page-turners.

Warriors is, um, interesting. But very confusing. And it has lots of characters so it might be a bit hard to keep track. I don't know if they're good or not because I can't remember. (I've read one of the books before, but quit.) They're probably well-written (???) though.
And The Hunger Games... I'm re-reading them right now actually. I first read them when I was eleven and found them excellent. But it is a bit violent so you might, might not like them. And to like them, you don't really have to like a certain genre. (I think, I can't really say because I like dystopian and sci-fi novels) But you should definitely read the Shadow Children series by Margaret Peterson Haddix. And any other novels by her. (except the Missing series which doesn't fulfill the MPH standards) :-)

RE: Hunger Games and Warriors-- Thank you for all the advice on books. I think I'll try the Shadow Children and I'll take the precautions with The Hunger Games. Warrior Cats... I trust your opinions so I'm still not sure if I'll read them...
@Olive-- I heard that Missing isn't good more than once and I'd like to ask, why??? I like MPH she's great but why isn't Missing good??

:) Good choice on the precautions. :):):):)

@Elizabeth M.: The Missing series just isn't that interesting, especially when compared to MPH's other works, and is a bit boring. Of course, that's just what I (and maybe a few others) think. :-)

I think the plot of the Missing series was interesting and good, but I absolutely abhor the main character. He annoys me to no end, and I can't even fully appreciate the things I like about the book because I keep wanting to shout at him. I wouldn't really mind if he was just a side character, but I hate reading all of his thoughts. They just seem... petty and ridiculous. Other than that, I suppose they're good enough, but I know that MPH can do much better, so just really wish she did.

From what I've figured out they aren't good books...?

Hm... Well, I think that the first book (Found) is pretty good (though not nearly as good as MPH's other books), but then it just goes downhill.
(March 2, 2011 - 1:27 pm)
Yeah, I agree with Ima, Found's pretty good, but Sent and um... The other one aren't as good.

I may try Found...
