@Kat: Well, The Book Thief is around WWII time period. I haven't read it in so long, but trust me, it was good. Sad, but what do you expect from WWII? The Shadow Children Series I just finished. It's about a future America where third children are illegal because of a drought they had. Couples can only have two children and the book is about certain third children and their adventures and such. Good series. I don't know the others.

Oooh, this should be fun. In no particular order, except for HP, which is first, second and third:
-The Harry Potter series!! OBVIOUSLY.
-Sherlock Holmes, the originals (no I am not a nerd, whatever gave you that idea?)
-The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton
-My Sister's Keeper... Will. Make. You. Cry.
-The Hunger Games trilogy, of course
-Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was absolutely hysterical, though I've only read the first one
-The Demon's Lexicon series... mostly because Sarah Rees Brennan is amazing in the kind of way that moves mountains, but also very much because her books are great
-The Chronicles of Narnia (which I am rereading after seeing Voyage of the Dawn Treader in theaters)
And that's all I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure there's more. Although I am reading a book called The Monstrumologist which I believe made the list, although it is very very very very very gory. Like, if it were a movie it would be R-rated, gory. (Don't read it unless you are okay with nightmares.)
I've never read the Discworld series, although I've heard many great things about them. I just never got around to it- are they that good?
(December 27, 2010 - 1:01 pm)
Yes! Yes they are! Better than that! Read them! You must! /obsession
I absolutely hated Outsiders, which may be partly from being forced to read it in an English class.
HG2G decreased greatly in quality after the first one. The next two are good, but four and five are rather meh.

Just wondering:
What's The Sister's Keeper about? Isn't it a really sad tragedy?
(December 28, 2010 - 1:34 pm)
So first of all I would like to say THANK YOU so much for the recommendations. I'm always looking for new books to read... PLUS you've added some of my absolute favorites!! I have a few ideas too, so here they are:
Percy Jackson Series(I know it's been mentioned a lot) by Rick Riordan
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman ( He wrote Coraline)
Savvy by Ingrid Law
Confetti Girl by Diana Lopez
Watership Down by Richard Adams
The name of this book is secret by Pseudonymous Bosch
If you're reading this it's too late by Pseudonymous Bosch
This book is not good for you by Pseudonymous Bosch
A Separate Peace by John Knowles
Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate Dicamillo
I'll try to think of some more!
(December 28, 2010 - 1:31 pm)
Out of curiosity, why is A Separate Peace one of your favorite books? I'm not trying to be rude, I really am interested. :)
Do you live in Germany?
(December 28, 2010 - 6:10 pm)
NO Problem! I don't know.. I read it and it's just different.. It's sad but the characters are all I don't know how to explain it but yeah. The end shocked me. And yes I do live in Germany.
(December 29, 2010 - 3:27 am)
I hope somebody can answer this question:
I started reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen but I didn't really get what it was about.. Can somebody give me a quick summary!?
(December 29, 2010 - 5:09 am)
Is it just me, or does anyone else think Pseudonymous Bosch is the same person as Lemony Snicket? Because they are both pseudonyms and have a pretty much identical writing style.
