DISCWORLD! Seriously. Read the Discworld series by Sir Terry Pratchett. They're fantasy books about a flat planet that goes through space on the backs of four elephants standing on the shell of the turtle, the Great A'Tuin. And they're absolutely _hilarious_. I would recommend starting with The Colour of Magic, Equal Rites, Mort, Guards! Guards!, The Wee Free Men, or Hogfather.

I personally like the Sisters Grimm series, but I have seen a thread dissing it.  I'm reading the Kingdom Keepers books right now, but those are less fantasy and more sci-fi.  Hmm, I should probably make a thread about Kingdom Keepers.

Seriously. Read The Hunger Games. Or The Book Thief.

The Book Thief! Yes, yes, and yes! I reccomend that book wholeheartedly. It's rather unusual, in a good way. It's incredibly sad (surely I'm not the only person who was bawling during the end?), but it's also beautiful and poetic. I mean, it's a novel about the Holocaust. It's narrated by Death. And somehow it manages not to be incredibly depressing. It even manages to be uplifting. If I had to sum it up to one sentence: It's about the power of words. Markus Zusak is a zarking genius.
