Maya was still upset that Carter was keeping things from her. So she went into Carter's cabin to talk  to her. "Carter why are you keeping secrets from me? We have been friends ever since my first time at camp when i was 6! So please tell me what's wrong!" Maya yelled. "I can't tell you Maya! Please stop asking!" Carter screamed. Maya's eyes turned gray and she stormed out of Carter's cabin slamming the door behind her. Carter threw herself onto her bed and shoved her face into her pillow. She cried and cried all night long until she heard Maya and Sarah screaming and laughing outside. They looked like they were having so much fun that Carter started to get upset again. "Maya is best friends with Sarah now. One day she will forget all about me," Carter thought. She didn't know what to do. But then she had an idea. "I have to leave Camp Halfblood," she decided. But she didn't know where to go. She had no home no family, no friends, no home. Nothing. But she packed her bag and when everyone was asleep she trudged down Halfblood hill and into the city.

I trudge over to the Big House.  No Mr. D.  You don't want to see me. I think.  I walk inside.  "Whopee, you're the head counselor of the cabin, yadda yadda and stuff," Mr. D. says, bored out of his mind.  "Congratulations, Scarlett," Chiron tells me.  "But.... How?" I ask him.  "Your head counselor abandoned us for ****," Chiron said grimly.

The **** means either Kronos's army or the few people on Kronos's side that survived the war depending on what book this takes place after.

Scarlett~

I walk back to the cabin.  "Took them long enough," I mumble. "I've only been here the longest for five long years."

I sit down at a bench near the basketball court and absentmindedly watch the Apollo campers play a pick-up game. Suddenly, the ball rolls into my feet. I snap to attention. Apollo campers never miss or drop the ball on purpose. 

"Sorry, we were trying to see if we could get the ball to roll in the woods, but, as you can see, we misjudged the direction," the new guy says. 

"It's okay. I'm not hurt," I say, gesturing at my foot, "I'm Scarlett."

He shakes my hand, "I'm Vail Loquin.  My first name's from the Old English.  My mom's into all that stuff."  He shrugs.  "I'm not into that stuff.  I like b-ball so much better."

"I'm Scarlett Bensan.  From the Hecate cabin.  You're from Apollo, right?"  I ask.

"How'd you guess? Maybe this basketball?" he says, twirling it around on his finger. "Anyway, I just got here and claimed yesterday."

"I've been here since I was three," I tell him, showing off my necklace.  I point at one of the beads.  "That one's from my quest."

"You've been here so long, I bet you're head counselor," he says.  His half- brothers yell at him.  "Better go."

"Bye."

I laughed along with Maya as I watched a dark mound move across the courtyard and towards the Big House. "Maya, could you lead the campers to the pavilion? Just tell Chrion that I have a hunch." I've been here long enough that Chrion knew not to interfere whenever I had a hunch. I grabbed my sword and a helmet and ran towards the shape, unnoticed by the shadows and unheard by the monsters in the woods. I drew my sword as silently as I could and lunged, pointing it at the object's neck. "Carter?" I said in surprise, and she parried the sword from my grasp. "What are you doing here? I would've been leaving Manhatten if you hadn't interfered and I decided to come back to see who's following me." She stared at me with cold dark eyes. "Look, all I wanted to know is where you're going. You're going to die, especially because you're a daughter of Hades." She backed up and tripped over a root. "How, what, wait, how did you know?" "I'm a daughter of Athena. I take problems and then I solve them. But, this was the biggest problem that I've ever seen, ever heard of. You, you shouldn't be alive! This goes against all rules, all of the ancient rules!" She glared at me. "Thanks, it's not like I didn't know that." She started to walk away. "Wait, Chrion doesn't know, so you could still stay here. You're going to die before you even get down the hill. You have to stay here!"

Carter~

Great, I thought. Maya's going to look for Carter, Carter's running away, and there might just be another war because stupid Hades had another kid. And with another war meant more planning on Athena's part, and we needed all of the campers we could get. I grabbed my sword and trudged over to the Hephaestus cabin. Using my sword, I banged on the door to get someone to open it. It was William. "Oh, hi William." I blushed, but shook my head. There was business to take care of. "So, do you have any magical items?" This lit up his face. He grabbed my arm and I felt as if Zeus had just electrocuted me. He led me into the cabin and towards a wall with a bunch of moving mechanics. "Let's see, magical items, poison, no, ahah, magical items." He scooted back a little centaur shooting arrows in no direction to reveal a rusted button with the letter 'H' on it. The shelf moved forward, revealing a little passage into a smaller room. The floor and the walls was covered with little deadly toys. "What do 'ya want?" "Well, what have you got?" "Well, poisonous chocolates, milk chocolate of course, monsters hate dark, um, blanket net, really comfortable, actually, invisibility jacket, invisibility hat, and, just a bunch of other stuff, I guess." The only light came from the dimly lit cabin, so it was pretty dark in there. "The hat really isn't my style, I'll take the jacket." He grabbed the jacket and walked towards me. I was really secretly hoping that he would put it on for me, but he just flopped it into my arms and walked off. As I left the room, the door closed. I left the Hephaestus cabin disappointed.

"Where are  you going?" I ask Sarah and Maya.  "Going after Carter," Sarah replies.  Maya explains, "She ran away after we figured out her father was..." "Hades," I whisper.  "I'll..." I start.  "Hey, Scarlett, wanna shoot some hoops?" Vail asks while he walks up to me.  "Not right now," I reply.  He walks away, looking hurt.  "I'll join," I tell the two girls as I take out my key chain that instantly finds any monsters in the area.
