I've seen a thread
Chatterbox: Blab About Books
I've seen a thread like this before, but I thought that I could make one here. SO I was thinking that a bunch of us could post story ideas, and once we have a decent story plan ready, we can like post chapters or our own story of the bookish thing. Here are some of my ideas:
1. It could be a fantasy, some times that's easy for me, 'cause I have an active imagination.
2. I love all of the mystical animals, especially the Greek monsters <3
3. Adventure stories are always my favorite.
My English teacher taught me a really useful format. I'll try to re-make it here:
Story Plan
Characters: List of characters, name and brief description
Setting: Describe in sentences all environments
The Problem: Obstacles forced by main characters
Events: List of events
The Resolution: How the problem is solved
So please join, if not, I'll just keep this thread alive by posting my ideas.

Erm... I think this should probably go on Inkwell. That sort of thing is done all the time there. It's called Round Robin 'Riting...
Anyway, I think I'll contribute later, but I'm a bit busy right now. Sorry.

ZB, that's a great idea, but this is the wrong place for it. We have a whole forum to talk about writing: Inkwell. BaB is to talk about books that have already been written.

Yeah, your'e right. I should have put it there. Whoops! But at least people know that it's here. I just thought that since we're writing a story thing, that it could be on Blab about Books. Oh well.

I think it's a great idea ZB! Admin what do you think? I think its ok even though its on BAB. I don't think it matters that much
We think it's a great idea, too! If ZB wants to keep it on BAB, that's fine with us, but moving it to Inkwell would be fine, too. We love reading your super-creative stories!

I love all three points! ^_^
Erm...
Plotwise, hmmm.... Maybe an evil elemental? I had this cool idea about how, in a world...
When everyone is born, they are tested to see if they have magic. Depending on if they have magic or not, those with magic go to a school and learn spells and stuff, but those who don't learn how to make potions and stuff. There are no exceptions.
^ and some person without magic or vice versa tries to switch schools.
Or...
A story in which adventurers with wacky personalities go on cliche fantast adventure quests, but we warp the clicheness and things end up in original (and funny) ways!

Good ideas! I'd do either.
(November 11, 2010 - 12:17 pm)
Yeah, I really like the idea where you have to be tested whether or not you have magical powers. So we have the plot :)!! Does anyone else who's doing this object? Now we have to think of a name for the main character, and problems that they run into to. Here's a list of names that I think would be good. Oh, and what about the place and time period?
Names: Girls: Jessica, Alexandria, Bonnie, Sarah, Vanessa Boys: Mark, Joseph, Jason, Andrew, Justin
Places: Greece, Asia, USA, Egypt
Time Periods: Ancient Civilization times, 1600s, or it could be in a secret place that you have to use a portal to get to from the mortal world and it has it's own time period?

I think I'd rather have the main character be someone with magic who wants to get into potions than vice versa. I think there are more plot opportunities that way. For one thing, someone without magic wouldn't be able to do anything in magic school, and someone with magic in potions school could still make potions. For another, there could be little suspicious escapes of accidental magic to make things interesting. As for why anyone would want to study potions instead of magic, I suppose that the MC would probably have great ambitions in potions and want to invent something, either to help the world or for his/her own selfish gain (either works...). Either that, or he/she considers something magicians do unethical, or a combination, but I prefer the great ambition idea. Or else there could be a better reason I can't think of at the moment; if anyone has a suggestion, they can post it... Or else we could just do someone who wants to do magic and has none; I just prefer the other option.
Presumably, the story would have to take place in an alternate universe, but I think basing it on an actual place or time is a great idea. It would involve research, of course, but that's alright. I like research as long as he topic is actually interesting. I like the ideas of Ancient Greece or Egypt, or the American 1600s, but anything's fine with me as long as it isn't the USA in the 1900s or medieval England--which is part of why I'm so keen on basing it on an actual time period like the ones you suggested. Otherwise, it nearly always ends up medieval.
I'd rather not have any portals connecting this world and ours, though. It's just been done so many times already... I mean, I'll do it if everyone else wants to, but I personally would prefer not to.

Well, what I think would be equally cool would be someone put into potions who discovers latent magical abilities but is not allowed to learn what to do with them, and/or is called a liar and forced to keep them hidden. We could even have both, and then they get in contact somehow and the magician-in-potions tries to trade places with potioneer-in-magic à la Martha and Lettie in Howl's Moving Castle.
(November 14, 2010 - 4:36 pm)
That's a great idea! Let's do that.
(November 14, 2010 - 7:49 pm)
Can I join?
I like the idea of the magic test.
For the setting, I think maybe it should be like they go into this room and then the whole test is like time travel. Like the first part of the test is in ancient Egypt, the second part is in ancient Greece, etc.

Oh, and if magic is real, magical creatures are real, right? Please?
(November 12, 2010 - 9:02 pm)
Permission to join please?
I think this time travel thing would work better if the people were from the future. Also, they should hafta go to some sorta elamentary school, that way thay have some education first. And the test could be devided into sections, like they study one culture and language for a month, and then go to the place.
Just ideas!

Ya to that future part!
