Chatterbox: Blab About Books
The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud
My aunt recommended...
My aunt recommended these books to me. They're about djinn and magicians. I'm nearly done with the second one, The Golem's Eye, and they are so good. (The other two are book one, The Amulet of Samarkand, and book three, Ptolmey's Gate.) Bartimaeus makes me laugh so much, especially in the footnotes.
Has anyone else ever read these books? If you haven't you should.

I <3 THE FOOTNOTES FAHEVAH. /fangirling
XD Bartimaeus is most awesome. The third (last) book made me cry. Quite a good series.
But I'll never, ever forgive jstroud for that positively. Totally. Awful!!! Heroes of the Valley *glances at Admin*... junk... that he released last year.

Yes, footnotes are wonderful. That's part of the reason I love pterry so much.
What's so bad about Heroes of the Valley? I haven't read it.

THESE BOOKS ARE AMAZING! I finished the second one awhile ago, but can't find Ptomely's Gate anywhere. Footnotes, yes.
I particularly like the djinn, especially Bartimaus and Queezle. Aww, Queezle.

I've read the first book and loved it. Ignore any negative comments you see from me about it. I posted those a long, long time ago (about a year ago), and my taste in books (especially their characters) has changed much since then. I agree with everything that's shown up so far, especially about the footnotes. I plan to read the rest of the series over the summer.
From what I've heard about HotV, though, I definitely don't intend to read it.

@ Ima: *high-fives*
@ ZNZ: Ah, poor naive child. ;) HotV was this awful awful Stroud book that came out in... '08 or '09 or something. And I saw it and was like, "jstroud! I <3 jstroud!" And I read it. And then I was like, "...oh." Seriously. If I just handed you this book and didn't tell you who wrote it, you would have /no idea/ it was jstroud. Nothing like the Bartimaeus trilogy. It was this very odd, absolutely plotless novel about this... ugly Chosen One person... and he wanted to like, kill all these mean people because they did something bad, and then there was this Rachel Elizabeth Dare clone, and she was like riding this horse or something... yeah. As you see, not very memorable. Essentially, that's because it was a LotR-HP-Eragon ripoff, in that order. Especially at the end. It just completely, pathetically petered off into some Harry-Chosen-One-Prophecy junk.
Oh yes. *remembers something* I believe there were zombies, too. That was the best part, if I recall correctly.

Who're you callin' a "poor, naïve child"? I see no poor, naïve children. ;) But yes, that sounds awful. Ugh.
Zombies! My friends at youth group and I were making up names and nicknames for ourselves. And mine was Zinz Zombie Zuchini, and my nickname was Zerbert. My friend B was Binky Blueberry Brocolli, nickname Brocoberry. And M was Marzipan Marshmellow Mushroom, nickname Mushmellow. Because the three of us are totally insane. Totally.
