OK, I have
Chatterbox: Blab About Books
OK, I have decided to start another HP BAB thread, because the rest of them are abandoned, or they have soooooo many comments that it makes my computer go beserk, and the thread I was commenting on kinda died and is on like the third page....... and I have not started a thread for a while.
Sooo, you can talk about anything Potter here, but please, if you want to rp, there are like 5 diffrent threads out there right now that are semi-active, and I'm sure that everyone on that thread would be appreciative if someone else joined. Not that I am against rps....I love reading them............
Anyways, back on subject, yea, so I have some questions for you guys to get this thread going!
1 Do you think JKR will ever write another book about HP and or about a character from HP?
2 Are you satisfied with the movies ?(Do you think the actors suit the roles, do you think that Hogwarts is not portrayed correctly, etc.)
3 How did you find out about HP?
4 Which is your favorite HP book?
5 Which is your least favorite HP book?
6 If you could change 1 minor thing in the series, what would it be? (and NO Voldy being alive is not a minor thing, I mean like the name of one of the characters, anamagus forms, patronous forms etc.)
Thanks
Elizabeth

1 Do you think JKR will ever write another book about HP and or about a character from HP? She probably has written another book/story/idea's about the wizarding world. or she might have idea's in her head and hasn't put it down on paper yet. Not everyone publishes everything they write...
2 Are you satisfied with the movies ?(Do you think the actors suit the roles, do you think that Hogwarts is not portrayed correctly, etc.) Nope. Not satisfied with movies based off books that I've seen. Though HBC is quite good... And Alan Rickman... And...
3 How did you find out about HP? At one of my friends house his dad had a lot of books, and he was letting me barrow some, and so I got HPatSS. And then I loved it so much that my aunt and uncle got the whole published series for me. The last one hadn't been published yet, though. So on my somethingith birthday I got HPatDH.
4 Which is your favorite HP book? First, it began the series, and without it it probably wouldn't have been read by me at all...
5 Which is your least favorite HP book? Um...
6 If you could change 1 minor thing in the series, what would it be? Harry Potter. Harry Potter. His names sounds like this hairy man that likes making pottery mugs. And all the other names like Draco Malfoy, Bellatrix Lestrange, Voldemort, Severus Snape, Albus Percival Wolfric Brian Dumbledore, Luna Lovegood, Nymphodora Tonks, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, almost all of the characters have so much more inters=esting names than him. Why couldn't JKR give him a more interesting name? Or something less hairy, like Isen instead of Harry.
(April 22, 2010 - 9:01 am)
I kind of think she wanted Harry to have an ordinary name. But you're right -- it's not very interesting.
(April 22, 2010 - 4:22 pm)
Ha, you make me feel old. I had to wait for the second book to come out.
Re: Harry's name: I think it's a nice sounding name, rolls off the tongue sort of thing, and I believe JKR picked it because (a) she like the name and (b) she wanted the protagonist to have a normal sounding name to accentuate his normal... ness...

1 Do you think JKR will ever write another book about HP and or about a character from HP? I doubt it. I wish she would, but I doubt it. She has said that if she does write another, it will be some sort of Potter-verse encyclopedia. Which would be really cool. *crosses fingers*
2 Are you satisfied with the movies ?(Do you think the actors suit the
roles, do you think that Hogwarts is not portrayed correctly, etc.) What was with that Burrow scene in #6? I mean, there's this huge battle at the end, but they cut that all out and add in this other, completely random, action scene? Why? And now how are they going to do the wedding scene? ... Um. Sorry. Ranting. :-/ I actually quite liked the movies. #6 just made me ... extremely mad ... in places.
3 How did you find out about HP? I must have been about ... seven? Eight? My parents got the first movie and we all watched it. I loved it so much that I absolutely had to read the books. I borrowed somebody's #1 ... made it through the end of four, but I stopped in #5 because [SPOILERS] of the scene with Ron's dad and the snake. I was absolutely convinced Harry was posessed. [END SPOILERS]. Later I started again, though, and the rest is history.
4 Which is your favorite HP book? Tie between #7 and #5.
5 Which is your least favorite HP book? Um. Maybe #1? But only because she got a lot better as she went along.
6 If you could change 1 minor thing in the series, what would it be?
(and NO Voldy being alive is not a minor thing, I mean like the name of
one of the characters, anamagus forms, patronous forms etc.) Huh. I guess it's not exactly minor, but I thought some of the characters were in the wrong houses. Pettigrew, for example. How'd he get in Gryffindor when everybody's always saying how cowardly he is? Or Hermione -- she's so smart I don't know how she didn't get put in Ravenclaw. Or Neville, he should have been in Hufflepuff; he's loyal, a good friend, a hard worker, even good at Herbology!

1 Do you think JKR will ever write another book about HP and or about a character from HP?
Well... I don't know. Didn't she say she was done? It'd be nice, though.
2 Are you satisfied with the movies ?(Do you think the actors suit the roles, do you think that Hogwarts is not portrayed correctly, etc.)
Viewed as movies and not adaptions, the movies are excellent with the exception of GoF. Viewed as adaptions, they're terrible. As to the actors, I love most of them except 1) Ralph Fiennes and 2) Daniel Radcliffe, both of whom are very good actors in their own right but not suited to the character at all. Though I do think Dan's voice fits the part excellently. As for Hogwarts, well, I think they did the best job they could've, considering.
3 How did you find out about HP?
I don't remember, it was years ago. I think maybe mom had the first one on tape and I was first intrigued by Jim Dale's general epicness and then by the story and characters.
4 Which is your favorite HP book?
Either PoA or HBP.
5 Which is your least favorite HP book?
DH, definitely.
6 If you could change 1 minor thing in the series, what would it be? (and NO Voldy being alive is not a minor thing, I mean like the name of one of the characters, anamagus forms, patronous forms etc.)
I'd put a stop to the Network Decay going on with the houses. Slytherins are not pureblood, they're cunning and ambitious. Hufflepuffs are not miscellaneous, they're loyal and hardworking.
(April 22, 2010 - 4:42 pm)
Re: Houses: Oh, absolutely. I think that the houses got to be, like someone said on the Hufflepuff thread, more like their Founder. Salazar was obsessed with blood class, so the Slytherins are like that, and Godric was reckless and brash, so that's how Gryffindors are. But that doesn't really make sense ...

1. Do you think JKR will ever write another book about HP and or about a
character from HP? No, but she will write an encyclopedia to the world, and she may write another of HP's textbooks.
2. Are you satisfied with the movies? (Do you think the actors suit the
roles, do you think that Hogwarts is not portrayed correctly, etc). Hm. Well, I really liked the movies. However, there were many things that I would definitely change if I were the person who planned them.
3. How did you find out about HP? My elder brother owned every single book in the series (don't ask me how he found out about HP, because I don't know), and whenever I got to the point where he thinks I'd probably enjoy one of his books (he had many), he would tell me. When I was 8, he reccommended HP to me. I loved the books immediately. However, when I got near the end of book 4, I got rather scared (being 8), and had to quit. This disappointed me (I had so wanted to read on and know what happened next), but I still loved the series (enough to go to a party when the 7th book came out on my birthday, even though I knew I wouldn't read it for a while—my brother bought it, so I wouldn't need to worry about that), and couldn't wait until I was old enough for the rest. However, I ended up forgetting about it (I was quite busy around that time—my family moved to another town) until, over a year later, a friend of mine decided to go to a HP summer camp (when I was almost 10). So then I remembered, and read the rest. I loved them. I wanted to go to the camp, too, in fact, but it was too late, and by the next year I was too old. At one point, though, I could become a counselor. That's something to think about. Of course, I'm not nearly old enough now, but...
4. Which is your favorite HP book? That's hard since they were all so excellent.I used to always say the 3rd, but now I think I prefer the 1st.
5. Which is your least favorite HP book? The 2nd, but it was still really good!
6. If you could change 1 minor thing in the series, what would it be?
(and NO Voldy being alive is not a minor thing, I mean like the name of
one of the characters, anamagus forms, patronous forms etc). Um... Dean Thomas' history was... No, never mind. I think I have to agree with Meadow. Harry's name is just boring.
Thanks. You're welcome!

Wow, it hasen't even been a day and look how many posts *squee*
Anyways first off, I would like to thank you all for responding, and I have an opinion on the name thing. I think JKR wanted to use names that were not very common for her main charecters. Just think about it. If Harry's name had been John and Hermione's Sara, lots of kids around the world would be teased if they had the slightest resemblance to that character, not saying I do not like the names she chose.... Anyway, personally I have never been partial to the name Harry. I always think of a bear.......
I also think that the sterotypes on the houses should stop.

1. Do you think JKR will ever write another book about HP and or about a character from HP? That would be a good idea, but I think that she has written short stories about them.
2. Are you satisfied with the movies? (Do you think actors suit the roles, do you think that Hogwarts is not portrayed correctly, etc.) I think that they did pretty well with the actors, I especially like Daniel Radcliffe (harry) and Bonnie Wright (ginny). I think that they would be a perfect match for each other in real life too.
3. How did you find out about HP? My friend was like obsessed about them, and I kept on looking at them at the library.
4. Which is your favorite HP book? It's probably Deathly Hallows, it's written so well, and they've matured so much it's cool to compare them to them in Sorcerer's Stone.
5. Which is your least favorite HP book? I didn't really like Chamber of Secrets, if I didn't have the goal to finish the series, I would've stopped there.
6. If you cold change one minor thing in the series, what would it be? (and NO Voldy being alive is not a minor thing, I mean like the names of the characters, anamagus forms, patronus forms etc.) I think that Harry's patronus should have been explained a bit differently, because for the whole series, I had no idea what a stag was.
(April 23, 2010 - 12:53 pm)
A stag is a male deer. But I guess you'd know that by now, from watching the movies...
(April 24, 2010 - 11:48 am)
1 Do you think JKR will ever write another book about HP and or about a character from HP? I sadly don't think so:( *cry*.
2 Are you satisfied with the movies ?(Do you think the actors suit the roles, do you think that Hogwarts is not portrayed correctly, etc.) Uhhh, not exactly. They're WAY too short. The directors from movies say stuff like "We have to edit because no one's going to want to sit through a four hour movie" and I would very much enjoy watching a four hour Harry Potter movie. I think that Daniel as Harry is, well, it's just that there are so many better actors than Radcliffe. Emma as Hermione is good. I think she's a pretty good actress. Rupert as Ron is pretty good too. The whole love potion incident was great acting. Evanna as Luna was a perfect choice. I like the new Dumbledore better, but what really ticks me off is that he doesn't wear half-moon spectacles!!! What's up with that?! Maggie Smith as Mcgonnagal was a good choice. Is Hogwarts portrayed correctly? Hmm... Yeah, I guess so. I really wish I had read the books before watching the movies!!
3 How did you find out about HP? I saw a commercial for it on TV. It was when McGonnagal turns into a cat. I thought it was really cool, but I didn't know it was called Harry Potter then; I probably couldn't read then. And then my Papa bought the first movie from Borders and I watched it. Well, part of it. But when I was older I watched the whole thing.
4 Which is your favorite HP book? The Order of the Phoenix. But who couldn't love the Sorcerer/Philosopher's Stone?
5 Which is your least favorite HP book? Uhh, I don't know! What kind of question is that?! But at the end of my favorite HP book list is Deathly Hallows.
6 If you could change 1 minor thing in the series, what would it be? (and NO Voldy being alive is not a minor thing, I mean like the name of one of the characters, anamagus forms, patronous forms etc.) Maybe instead of "Nymphadora" it could be "Nymphalydia". Lydia is prettier than Dora, and "nymphalid" has something to do brightly colored butterflies, so Nymphalydia makes more sense than Nymphadora, I think... And Snape and Malfoy should've gotten a broken nose at least once in every book! Lol.

1 Do you think JKR will ever write another book about HP and or about a character from HP?
She's writing an encyclopedia and I heard that she going to write about Albus Potter.
2 Are you satisfied with the movies? (Do you think the actors suit the roles, do you think that Hogwarts is not portrayed correctly, etc.)
I think they did a good job with the movies although they were very different from the books.
3 How did you find out about HP?
When I was little, I would see my parents reading the books. They told me I was to little to read them so I convinced myself that they weren't any good anyway. When my parents said I could (I was 8) I didn't want to anymore. HPSS just sat in my room until I got bored. The moment I read the first sentence it was love at first sight.
4 Which is your favorite HP book?
6 or 7
5 Which is your least favorite HP book?
2
6 If you could change 1 minor thing in the series, what would it be? (and NO Voldy being alive is not a minor thing, I mean like the name of one of the characters, anamagus forms, patronous forms etc.)
Nothing really. I think JKR did a fantastic job with the series.
(April 24, 2010 - 1:57 pm)

1 Do you think JKR will ever write another book about HP and or about a character from HP?
I dunno. Judging by what other people have said about an encyclopedia of sorts, then, yeah.
2 Are you satisfied with the movies ?(Do you think the actors suit the roles, do you think that Hogwarts is not portrayed correctly, etc.)
Well, I know that the books are better than the movies, and I think a lot of important stuff was left out. Especially in #5.
3 How did you find out about HP?
I can't remember, it was so long ago.
4 Which is your favorite HP book?
6
5 Which is your least favorite HP book?
2, probably, and it seems I'm not the only one that thinks this
6 If you could change 1 minor thing in the series, what would it be? (and NO Voldy being alive is not a minor thing, I mean like the name of one of the characters, anamagus forms, patronous forms etc.)
