Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Just to get our mind off of the warrior debates
Just to calm...

Just to calm things down a bit with all this "warrior debates" and such...I wanted to ask what your favorite type of book is? And then we could suggest books that they would fit your description! Mine would be a fun to read fantasy novel. Or a Historical Fiction of some sort! What about everybody else?

Oh I am also somewhat new on Chatterbox. I have been reading all the posts for maybe over two years or so. I try to post, but don't really have that much time. But you all Chatterboxers are such fun I will try to post more! :)

Welcome!! Even though you have been with us... i was like that to. :)

I love fantasy. I think it would be my favorite. next comes historical fiction, then realistic fiction. I don't read much science fiction (i haven't been able to find any, book ideas?) Mystery is good, as long as it is well written.

questions for anyone who knows.
What genre are books like Ravens quest, Silverwing, warriors and watership down in? They aren't realistic fiction, but they aren't magical fantasy stuff. Are they still considered fantasy or is there another genre?

Hmmm...I wouldn't know what genre they would be in...we could just leave it at Fiction. :) Do you like books by Agatha Christie? Her books are very well written and in the mystery category. Thanks for the welcome!

Warriors is definitely fantasy, since Clan leaders get 9 lives from the spirits of the ancestors, and Ciderheart was reincarnated. I haven't read Silverwing, and I'm not sure about Watership Down.

ahhhh i just wrote a big long spiel, then my internet quit so now i have to re-write it.... :P

Welcome! I was like that to, i've been on since the beginning of chatterbox, but didn't post until last year. :)

I would have to say fantasy is my favorite. Historical Fiction and Realistic Fiction are close seconds though.

I have a question for you all. What genre is Watership Down, Warriors, Ravens Quest and Silverwing in? They aren't realistic fiction, but aren't magical fantasy. So are they still fantasy or is there another genre?

@Kendra: I think they are considered fantasy.

As for fave books, fantasy, historical fiction, realistic fiction, mystery. In that order!

Kendra, to answer your question, warriors and Silverwing, etc., belong to the animal fantasy group, I think. The animals can talk and stuff, so that's why it's animal fantasy. Not sure, though. . .

I have a long list of genres. Here it is going:

1) Mystery!

2) Action

3) Fairytale Fantasy (Gail Carson Levine ROCKS!)

4) Fantasy (Avid Cornelia Funke fan)

K. That was shorter than I thought. Olive says Hi!

Hi. One thing you must know is I cannot post my real name, but one of my favorite books of all time is Dragon Rider by Corneilia Funke.

My favorite genre is fantasy. Historical fiction is an extremely close second. Realistic fiction is my third (a moderate amount away)—well, actually, I think it's tied with fiction-like biography/autobiography. Then comes science fiction, then biology, then... Well, I really think that's about enough. Oh wait, I frogot fantastic realism! That comes between historical fiction and realistic fiction (or fiction-like biography/autobiography).

This seems similar to pretty much everyone else's lists! Well, for people who love both fantasy and historical fiction, how about books set in the past, but with twists of fantasy? Like... The Sea Of Trolls, by Nancy Farmer. Or... The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness, by Michelle Paver? Oh, and there's a historical fiction book told more in the way of a fantasy novel than real life—a series actually; the first book is Blood Red Horse. Anyone else care to contribute?

Fantasy, Sci Fi, and Magical Realism

and

Historical Fiction

That's it. I really dislike most realistic fiction and mystery (although Chasing Vermeer was excellent).

Ooh, I thought I was the only person who'd read CV! I agree about it; I also dislike most mystery, but it was kind of impossible not to love.

APC says drmy! Dreamy! He likes dreamy books! Or books about dreams! I'll recommend a couple to him: The BFG and Alphabet Of Dreams!
