Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Jean Craighead George's Books
OK, so I...

OK, so I have read six of Jean Craighead George's books, and they rock! The first three are Julie of the Wolves and its two sequels, Julie and Julie's Wolf Pack, which ROCK! Seriously though they are my favorite books. Julie of the Wolves and Julie are told from Julie's point of view, and Julie's Wolf Pack is told from the wolves' point of view, which I like.

The first book basically follows an Eskimo girl, Miyax, English name Julie, who runs away into the Alaskan tundra and finds herself lost, with no chance of survival unless she learns to communicate with a pack of wolves. The second book is about what happened afterwards, when she managed to find her way back to civilization. And Julie's Wolf Pack is, as I have said, told from the wolves' POV and tells about their daily life, often interacting with humans.

The other three of her books (that I've read) are My Side of the Mountain, On the Far Side of the Mountain, and Frightful's Mountain. Loved them. Some of the best books ever.

The story: The first book is about a boy named Sam Grisby (? I think that was it. Anyway, his first name is definitely Sam), who decides his life in an apartment in New York City with his mother, father, and seven or eight brothers and sisters is becoming unbearable and runs away to the mountains. It chronicles his daily life from there, in journal entries. It's really awesome because he gets a peregrine falcon, names her Frightful (because he had to hang on the side of a cliff to get her), and teaches her falconry. Book two tells about his adventures after that, when his little sister comes and lives on the mountain with him. Then his falcon gets confiscated by a wildlife ranger. And his little sister goes wandering off, so he follows her. And the third book is about the falcon's, Frightful's, life, having and raising chicks-that kind of thing. It's awesome.

Anyway, the whole reason I made this post was so people who read these books could reply to it and tell me what they think. So, go ahead! :)

Yes! I have a fellow fan! :) lol XD. I love them too, she is such an awesome author! By the way, Jean Craighead George is a little hard to say, so I'm just going to say JCG. It's easier.

*Hisses at Wolfgirl* I hate wolves. They kill cats and eat them.

Again, this makes no sense. If you're a cat, how are you typing on an internet forum. This is not a warriors role-play. This is a thread about books, if you can believe it, other than warriors. So, you really don't belong here. This is trolling. You can't post as a fictional cat on a thread for real people about things cats have never heard of. Please don't, that is. It serves no purpose.

That was very silly indeed.

As to Julie of the Wolves, Mom always said I should read that. :) Is it good?

I really liked My Side of the Mountain (which I read last year), Julie of the Wolves (though I don't remember it, much), and Julie's Wolf Pack (which I own). I didn't know that MSotM (My Side of the Mountain) had sequels, and I didn't know about Julie! I'll have to check them out!

JCG is a great author! She really manages to capture the beauty and... *strains to find a word* well... *can't* [whatever the word I'm looking for is] of the natural world into everything she writes! She just seems to havve a great understanding of the way things work, and... Oh, whatever. I give up. I can't figure out how to ay how I feel about her books. Suffice to say that I love them.

I've read the Julie Of The Wolves Trilogy, and I love it! She the only author in the world who, in my opinion (although, since I can never actually enter the mind of an animal and see how it thinks, I could be completely wrong), can write an entire book from an animal's perspectivewithout going anthropomorphic. I'm serious. The way she writes about wolves is exactly the way I always imagine they probably think.

I've read My Side Of The Mountain and On The Far Side Of The Mountain, too. Those were also awesome. I can't wait to read Frightful's Mountain!

I've also read The Talking Earth. I loved that, too, although I'm certainly not convinced  that there is no life on other planets. But I suppose it may be better to assume that there isn't, or humankind would no doubt end up wanting to destroy it. But that really is off-topic, so I'll move on to the next book...

I once read a picture book about wolves that she wrote, and I really liked it, although I was in 2nd grade at the time.

And I've read an extremely interesting nonfiction article about Koko, the gorilla who learned sign language.

@Yellowpelt: Wolves don't eat cats. I mean, they might, but cats don't hang around where wolves are, so there's no problem.
