Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Grammar Books (of Awesomeness)
In order to...

In order to counteract Warriors, I'm going in alpha order across my bookshelf and making a thread for the first five books. I'm skipping PBosch's books, though, because there's already a thread for those.

Savvy?

Also, I just realized I'm gonna skip around more because there's already threads for other things, or they're boring or obscure, or whatevah.

Can you diagram this sentence? "Grammar is awesome."

Grammar/English/spelling etc is awesome. I have books to prove it. Accomodating Brocolli in the Cemetary (yes that's all mispelled on purpose) by Vivian Cook, Sister Bernadette's Barking Dog by Kitty Burns Florey, the whole Lynne Truss collection...

Has anybody read any of these? Or have any other grammar-nut books to recommend or discuss? C'mon, I know you do! *is peppy*

Erm, sorry. The closest I've come to reading a grammar book is reading my literature textbook, but that's stories, so it really doesn't count...

You strike me as the type who'd like grammar-related books, Ima. *grin*

Toptoptop.

@Katharine M.: Are you a Warriors fan? Because that's the only explanation I can come up with as to why you don't want any of these posts up here.

@Mary W.: Wish I had, they sound interesting!

@Wolfgirl67, re: KM: My thoughts exactly.

And re: grammar books: You should. :) They're fun.

Also recommended is Ammon Shea's Reading the OED, which is yayness.

You mean like the Elements of Style? I have that one. It's awesome, and very stylish. I refer to it always.

Sad, isn't it, that after she squashes our threads, Katherine doesn't come back to read what we have to say to her?  Admin, could you maybe ask her not to do that?  It's really starting to become a problem. :(

We agree, Laura, nobody should be sending other people's threads to the bottom on purpose. Please stop, whoever's doing it, or we'll have to start deleting posts.

Thanks,

Admin

*dramatic gasp*

Also, Danica McKellar's books are math, not grammar, but they still absolutely rock. XD Math Doesn't Suck, and Kiss My Math...

*gianna voice* They're Not Just A Guide To Math. They're Like A Guide To Life.

Although strictly speaking, I said that, not Gianna. /rambling inside jokes

Oooooh! I love diagramming sentences!!!!!!!!!! I like scaffolding too, even though it's a bit harder. Ok in the sentence "Grammar is awesome" Grammar= Subect noun, is= verb, and awesome= adverb. Wait no! it's adjective, right?

Cemetery is a hard word to spell... For me. I got it wrong in my spelling lesson practice and spelling test. It was awful.
