Chatterbox: Blab About Books

The Book Thief
This book is...

This book is INCREDIBLE.

It's also very sad. I cried at the end.

It's creative and fresh, not like other cliche World War II books, and as a bonus it's narrarated by Death. The way it's written is so sad and inspiring.

I don't usually gush like this over books, especially WWII hi-fi, but this was amaaazing. It's now one of my all-time favourite books. It's very hard to describe, but I strongly recommend that you read it.

It's by Markus Zusak, and in addition it has an epic cover.

I agree with Mary Liz - this was an incredible book.  It was wonderfully rich in metaphors, and Zusak kept adding more layers to the story.  I also sobbed through the last three chapters, and had to retrieve a box of tissues to keep in front of me.  The story holds a completely unique perspective on World War II Europe, mainly because it is a book that takes place during the war, but that isn't about the war, making it much more real and touchable.  You fall in love with the characters as you read, even the ones you originally thought you would hate.  In this book, there are no by-the-way characters.  Each character, even the unimportant ones, has a story of their own.

Believable, rich, satisfying, tear-jerker, stay-up-under-the-covers-all-night-with-a-flashlight....all in all, a book worth reading.

LOVED IT! I totally bawled when I read the part with Rudy. The boy with hair the color of lemons forever... And Max's books were neat, especially the one with the trees. And the narration by Death. Wow. I liked the whole color thing at the beginning.
