Coraline
Has anybody out...

Has anybody out there read "Coraline"?

It's a greeeat book about a girl, Coraline Jones, who loves to explore. When she moves to a new house, she discovers all sorts of strange and interesting things. One day, she goes through a mysterious locked door in the living room and finds herself in another world just like her own. Except it's better...or is it?

It's a spooky and very imaginitive story, slightly reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, which I immedeatly fell in love with.

I strongly recommend this book...and anything else by Neil Gaiman, for that matter.

The movie is also great, but not for the easily unnerved.

I love Coraline! I liked the movie, too, but not nearly as much as the book.

I've never read any of NG's other books. What are they about?

The only NG I've read so far is Good Omens, which was also by Terry Pratchett so I'm not sure how much of Gaiman's style I'm actually getting.

However, from what I've read of his interviews and whatnot he seems interesting, if perhaps a little... off... Which is a good sign in my opinion.

Anyway, suggestions as to a good book to start with?

Mmph, I was sort of disappointed with NG. Coraline was nothing as good as I'd heard it was, and pretty simplistically written. Also, Coraline-the-character was FAIL. Fail. There is no other word for it.

I thought Coraline (the book) was simplistic, yet enchanting. Neil Gaiman is truly an inspiring author.

However, I the movie did not capture my likeness. I didn't like how the plot was dramatically changed. One of the main chararcters in the movie, Wybie, was not even part of the novel!

I guess the movies will never be as wonderful as the books. Undecided

Well, that is true. But I thought it was okay.

It was very different, though. Actually, the reason why i read Coraline was because...

Well, I think my brother was reading it for school, or something, so it was out on a table for weeks. I read the blurb and thought it looked interesting, but not great. Well, no, that's wrong. It looked good, but I wasn't sure whether or not I like it. When that happens—and here comes the extremely weird part—I read the blurb once a week until I get curious enough about the plot to read it, or I decide it just  doesn't look good. I was on the brink of deciding it wasn't good when a newspaper article came out about the  movie. It didn't say it was based on a book, but Coraline isn't exactly a common name, and the plot did seem slightly reminiscent of what I'd readon the blurb. However, I couldn't really tell, so I read the book out of curiousity. I then decided that the movie was based on the book. Since I liked the book,I saw the movie. And I've already stated my feelings, so...

I read it a few days ago and was going to make a thread for this.  But you beet me to it!  I liked it!  Sort of short for me, I would have liked for it to be a little longer.  I have not seen the movie.  River told me that it was a scary movie (though he is seven).  And since I just saw it sitting there on the shelf and I'd heard of it, I took it and checked it out at the library.  I like AAiW more than Coraline.

On the back of the book, there was a review from Terry Pratchett; he said it would send shivers down your spine.  Eh...  Not really, for me, actually.  But I have a small amount of let yourself get scared for books.    A few years ago I would be scared for, you se, it was night when I read it and I *was* scared of the dark then.  A few years ago, I mean.  And I also used to be scared to go into the basement alone.  but now, I seem to have a bedroom in the basement, and I sleep in it everynight that I'm hom (except for the nights I fall asleep on the couch).

And now I'm getting rambly and should hit submit...

I do wish it had been longer. I read it in about 2 hours, so...

Coraline is an excellent book, and I would strongly recommend it. My favorite part in the book is by far "Coraline's Story" It goes like this:       THERE WAS A GIRL HER NAME IS APPLE. SHE USED                                                             TO DANCE ALOT. SHE DANCED AND DANCED UNTIL HER FEET TURND TO SOSAJES.

(Coraline really did make those mistakes) And I would also recommend anything else by NG. I have read Coraline, (of course you already knew that) Stardust, Smoke and Mirrors, M is for Magic, The Graveyard Book, and um...I can't think of anything else.
