Chatterbox: Blab About Books

When You Reach Me
This book is...

This book is nothing like books I normally like. The main character is a sixth-grade girl. There are no ninjas, spies, magic wands, starships, and even really villains. The cover is even pinkish. A sizeable portion of the book is just the main character at school.

And yet, this was definitely on my Top Ten Books I Read In 2009, perhaps taking the prize. The sheer greatness of it makes up for the fact that it is not normally my kind of book.

When You Reach Me is by Rebecca Stead. It's about  a girl named Miranda in 1970s NYC. She starts to find mysterious, impossible notes everywhere. Great book, read it.

Ooo, I read this. Actually, it was also exceedingly unlike other books I like, and I wouldn't have picked it up at the library except for the fact that I remembered you [Reuben] raving about it on another thread. I really liked it as well. The plotline was very clever, with all the time travel and everything. And the subplots were brilliant.

I've been wanting to read it, actually. I didn't know much about it, but it was reccommended for people who liked the Theodosia Throckmorton books by the author of that series, so I wanted to read it.

It involves time travel? That's good... I could list lots of books I like that  also do, although I could also list books I don't like of the same subject...
