Lord of the

Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Lord of the Flies
Lord of the...

Lord of the Flies.

Yeah, I reread this for school and still think it's a masterpiece-of-sorts. Up there with And Then There Were None and... I don't know. Other really good books. Murder on the Orient Express? Don't know if you can tell, but I usually stick to rereading mostly Agatha Christie. :p

Has anyone else reads this and actually liked it like me? No one in my class seems to. :(

Anyone want to discuss?

I've always kinda wanted to read it. We have to read a book every quarter, and my friend from English class read it and didn't like it very much. I think I might swap with her for next quarter. From what I've heard, the premise intrigues me.

Yea, but I also have some sorta weird/"depressing" interests, so I can see how some might not love it. Still a pretty interesting book, even with all its flaws to me, though.

By the way, did you know that Golding once explained (to an editor, I believe it was) that the whole book was an experiment of sorts he designed to rationalise why nations/people create conflicts, and how that ties in with human nature? It's pretty cool stuff, if you ask me. Would recommend a read!

Ohhh I definitely have to read it now. That is so cool. I get really fascinated by those kind of "what if" books.

I just read 1984 (which, by the way, gets pretty intense and depressing and is definitely not a before-high-school read, at best, in my opinion, for anyone reading this), which I found really interesting mainly because of the philosophies it explores. I wouldn't recommend it to just anybody, just because of that intensity factor, but it does bring up some interesting ideas on what is "good" for a society. It also gave me inspiration for other alternative story/novel plot ideas based on similar government ideologies.

Hi, I haven't read Lord of the Flies, but I read And Then There Were None for a school mystery unit this year. It was so good and so creepy and so engrossing at the same time (being the first actual murder mystery I ever read)!! The ending was definitely not what I expected at all, but it was amazing! I'm debating whether to read more Agatha Christie or not- how are the other books?

OML it's soooo good!! I LOVE IT! Murder on the Orient Express is another good one, but they're all incredible~ Agatha Christie is literally QUEEN.

*Cheers loudly*

For that mystery unit we picked our books: everyone else was complaining that they didn't like their mysteries, ect., ect., and I was like ha! you should have picked Agatha Christie, you'll never be bored! Oh, my school's library is like so tiny it's sad (at least the fiction section is). I asked my parents why it wasn't bigger and they said people don't have time to read/write tons anymore. How!?!

At least my public library is great! I love walking around brousing the shelves for nothing in particular and finding books I read years and years ago and finding books I've been wanting to read in forever and finding books I never knew existed but look so cool anyway!!!

Yes, many, though I'm not sure I could express them all in a post...

Mainly, while reading it (mostly on audiobook) it felt kind of horrific and nightmarish. I think the plot was an accurate enactment of my frustrations with human conflict and the like, which may be why. The imagery was insanely good! It was vivid and three-dimensional.

While reading it it felt kind of slow, but reflecting on it as a whole it makes it make a lot more sense. The symbolism is great; I think it's really cool how the different characters represent different values/points of view. It is very successful in evoking the emotions it's meant to; I'm a little heartbroken over certain characters. The parallels/structure, the perspective, characterization, were all interesting and well done. The whole model seems pretty plausible to me, which is both cool and deeply concerning. I think I have mixed emotions about it--but at the same time, that seems to be the point? I don't know. Anyway, from the perspective I have now having finished it, I definitely appreciate it. Theoretical stuff is fascinating.

That's the main gist of it, I think.

I love mysteries. I haven't read Murder On The Orient Express, but I have read And Then There Were None and it was so good :)

I watched the Lord Of The Flies movie a year or so ago. It was good but there were some parts that were kinda confusing. Aparently some people want to make an all girls Lord Of The Flies were basically all the charctars are girls instead of boys. A lot of people don't like that idea.
