I'm sure this has been done before, but starting a new thread is sure easier than topping an old one...
So behold: Lord of the Rings! Or the Hobbit, the Silmarillion, Middle Earth in general.
For starters: What's your favorite part? Are the movies or books better? Favorite character?

YAY OHMIGOSH
I LOVE MIDDLE-EARTH! I've read the Hobbit, The Fellowship of the Ring and I'm halfway through The Two Towers, and I've watched all the Hobbit movies and the first Lord of the Rings. I'd say overall the books are better, the way J.R.R. Tolkien writes just fills me with joy. The one advantage the movies have, though, is Legolas.

I've read the Hobbit, LOTR, silmarlion, and every J.R.R Tolkien book known!!! I think the movies are great buuuuuuuuuuut the books are so much better!! J.R.R tolkien writes so beautifuliy it makes me want to sing *sigh* for me my favorite Characher is Legolas he is AWESOME!!! * sigh* I also LOVE Lady Galdrial, Lady Eówyn, and Yavanna!!! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVELOVE LOVE LOVE LOVELOVE LOVE LOVE LOVELOVE The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, I have read all of them SO MANY TIMES!!!! I love Legolas as well, and was suprised so many other people did too!!! I've been him for Halloween

I definitely know my favorite character! It's that elf (I have no clue how to spell his name. It sounds like legolas)
I don't have a favorite part, and I think the movies were better because I couldn't read the books! They were too long and I can never read long books.

I think the books are better, EXCEPT that the book's diction is more formal than modern books, so it sounds a little more boring.
My favorite character is Aragorn.

LotR is my favorite, ever. Which is saying a lot.
My favorite part is kind of any scene with Aragorn in it. Actually maybe Helm's Deep. Intense, well-written, everyone being epic, AND interspersed with Legolas-Gimli banter.
I think the books are better. The movies are really really good (I'm still mad about how they made Faramir meaner than he was in the books though), and I've only watched the first two, but the writing is spectacular and... idk I just love it.
Aragorn is easily my favorite. Then Legolas, then Pippin. The only character I really don't like besides you know the really evil ones is Denethor. *hiss*
Has anyone else read the Silmarillion?
Oh and I LOVE Elladan and Elrohir too.

I love Lord of the Rings! I can't fairly say that the movies are better because I've only read the first 1.5 books plus the hobbit (the audiobooks kept expiring and the wait list is super long), but the movies are definitely awesome. They take so long to watch that by the end you feel like you're literally in e movie. I always cry when Frodo leaves :(
My favorite character is definitely Éowyn, because she's kind of the only strong female character (cries) besides Galadriel, who is also awesome. Second might be Pippin, because Merry and Pippin are so Fred and George (in the movies, less so in the books but they're really good in the books too).
Favorite part is Éowyn murdering the nazgul king. It's so iconic. And I love the part in the books where the four hobbits are traveling to the prancing pony, I wish they hadn't left that out of the movies. Ah and the iconic "second breakfast" line of course.
(I'm sorry but I just have to add how racist these books and movies are. I love them but they're racist.)(And sexist)(But so good)

Okay... this is heavily influenced by fanfiction lol but I don't like Thranduil that much. He's cool but very much a jerk sometimes. Well no, I like him but I get very mad at him sometimes.

I love Aragorn, but Legolas is most certainly the best. I like elves in general, and I think if I only read the books my favorite might be Gimli or Bilbo or someone, buuut after I finished The Hobbit I went and watched the movies and... Legolas...

Elves are so cool. To anyone who's read Keeper of the Lost Cities - Do you like Lost Cities or Middle Earth elves better?
