The Lord of the Rings
I think that...

I think that a lot of people think that Sam is the real hero. He's very important, and awesome, but I am annoyed by all the letters that say that Sam is never under the lure of the Ring. He was! Also he didn't carry it for as long as Frodo.

Well, I agree with you on some points. He was definitely under the lure of the Ring: I doubt anyone could have resisted it. Even Gandalf felt it. Sam didn't carry it for nearly as long, but many that never carried it felt its lure. I think much of the "sam-is-the-hero" faction (Team Sam) is basing there opinion solely on the movie, which had Frodo as alternating from a total loser dependant on Sam (Oh Sam! I'm glad you're with me!) (What are we holding onto Sam? That there's some good in this world, Mr Frodo) to trusting Gollum more than Sam. Seriously, BookFrodo was a hero. (Which is reason 21 why I should have written the movie screenplay.)

Unfortunately, I only got so far in book one before I had to return it to the library, but as soon as I can I'm getting the series out again to finish it. I read The Hobbit twice, though.

@ Reuben: What are the previous twenty reasons, out of interest?

I think Sam is definitely the most awesome sidekick ever, but Frodo is the hero (even if he doesn't act particularly heroic in the movie...) But yeah, Frodo is the only one who can carry the Ring. Sam even said, "I can't carry it for you" and all that, because Sam really can't. Only Frodo is strong enough to bear the Ring. At least, that's what I picked up from the books.

Sam is a seriously like the best sidekick ever though. XD I love how he calls Frodo "Mister Frodo" the entire time. I think that shows a lot of humility on his part.

U r soooo right!!! I hate how Sam is always called a friend and not a servant when he is sooo a servant (not that he's a slave). The only reason he went is because he was eavesdropping.  i still love Sam tho.Smile

I've never seen the movies, only read the books, so I saw nothing to suggest that Sam was the real hero.

On a different note, my school has an official 'Lord of the Rings Club,' and I'm thinking of joining, since all the books were amazing, but I'm not sure. I know nothing about it except for the fact that it exists, and how to join, and the last name of the adult in charge (who I've never met), and her gender. That isn't much to go on.

I was about to say that I didn't think I could find out any more about it without joining beforehand, and ask whether you thought I should join or not, but I accidentally clicked submit. So...

You guys want to do a LOTR RP?

No. Why? I t would defeat the purpose of the books. The way they end is perfect, and to try to continue them would be thoughtlessly vulgar. With Harry potter, yes. Why do you think their's an epiloge???But A LOTR RP , well I would be horrified.
