Chatterbox: Blab About Books

The Goose Girl
I absolutely loved...

I absolutely loved this book! I thought that it wouldn't be very good at first, but then Kake made me read it and I'm in love with it!!! It's soooo yummy! For some odd reason, I really like Razo....I think it might be because he reminds me of me.... :D So, anyone else read it? Or the other ones? (ie, Enna Burning, etc.)

I read it mainly by accident- I was looking for a book that had geese in it, and the bookstore-owner found Goose Girl. But I'm really glad she did- I loved it so much I introduced it to my book club! What gift would you like to have? I would like the gift of animal-speaking, seeing as I already have the gift of nature-speaking... (No, really! I can talk to trees and wind!)

I suppose that I'd want them all, but maybe most so the gift of nature speaking :D When I was little I always believed that I could talk to this old birch tree, and this pussywillow, too (not Ladybug's pussywillow, an actual tree ;D) And animal speaking would be so much fun! *daydreams*. People speaking, of course, would be highly useful, but I like communicating via writing anyhoo, and I don't think that people speaking would help me there :D

I know... wouldn't it be so fun to talk to animals? But trees are more in-depth and thoughtful, exept for young ones. An exception is one tree I planted 3 years ago- it came from a seed that came from the last living tree that Johnny Appleseed planted. No lie! I got it for Christmas and it now lives in my grandparents' yard with lots of water and sunshine.

Nature speaking sounds wonderful. I've only read the first book.

Coincidentally, that book is sitting on a shelf next to me. I haven't read it, though.

 East is awesome!

People speaking would be useful, but I just can't envision myself with that gift. It's really completely against my nature. Almost no one ever listens to me. My life would be so different, I really can't imagine it.

I Love those books!   :) I think they are my favorite series of books. Have you read the rest of her books? I love them all! I would like nature and animal speaking, but as long as they didn't ovewhelm me. :)

That sounds interesting, Mango!  And no, I don't think you're lying.  Can you tell me more about what it's like?

I recently read Goose Girl and am about halfway through Enna Burning.  I have to say, they aren't my favorite books, even though I generally like the author (Haddix, right?).  Anyway, Ani really annoyed me until at least two-thirds through the book.  She didn't seem to have any capacity to think/stand up for herself.  This could have been interesting if Haddix emphasized her transformation more (shallow princess to BOOM! thoughtful goose girl), but it seemed almost like Ani's original shallowness wasn't on purpose.  The "speaking" gifts are an interesting idea, but I believe it could have been executed better.  All in all, an okay book, but I doubt I'll reread it.
