Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Book of the Week
I have decided...

I have decided to become a part of Kitten's movement to revive BaB. (Yes, Kitten, you have started a movement, congratulations.) So I present you with:

Book of the Week!

Mahriel made a similar thread a while ago, but it died out pretty quickly. I think it was a really good idea, (Book of the Month) but I think that a month is just too long of an interval to keep a thread going. So, now we will have a Book of the Week thread.

Every week, I will announce what the new book is. Other CBers may leave suggestions, and I will attempt to use them all. After I have told everyone what this week's book is, one specially chosen person (anyone who has commented on this thread, who will be selected in a random drawing) will create a book review for the book on Cricket Reader's Recommend (http://www.cricketmagkids.com/books), another section of this website that really ought to be revived. So, this thread will be a discussion central for what the next book of the week will be and who will post the review, as well as any other related topics, while the reviews will be on Cricket Readers Recommend.

If you have any other ideas or suggestions for this, please comment!

I've started a movement? Wow, thanks!

I have a few suggestions... The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan (book 1 of the Ranger's Apprentice series), The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart (book 1 of the Mysterious Benedict Society series), and Just Mercy (young adult version) by Bryan Stevenson.

Woo-hoo! Revive BaB! I suggest that we read The Girl Who Drank the Moon or The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl.

Yay! Ooh, The Girl Who Drank the Moon is amazing. So is it like a book club where everyone is supposed to read the Book of the Week?

I have a few suggestions *consults never-ending list of books I've read*

Matilda by Roald Dahl

All Summer Long by Hope Larson

Beyond the Bright Sea by Lauren Wolk

Okay I should stop now.

Well, originally, I wasn't going to have it be a book club, exactly, just a place for people who already have read the book to discuss it or something. But if we want, it could be a book club, and it could become bi-weekly if need be.

Ooh, cool! Some book suggestions:

Doll Bones by Holly Black

The Serafina Series by Robert Beatty (do series count?)

Counting by Sevens by Holly Goldberg Sloan

If This Were a Story by Beth Turley

Also, what happens if no one has read the chosen book? Some of them might not be too well-known.

@DoodleGirl: Well, I think this is turning into a book club as well, so that won't be an issue unless someone doesn't have any library access.
And I love Counting by 7s! It's such a good, sad, beautiful book. I especially like Willow's acorn.

@Everyone: Anyway, we are going to start on Sunday. I will tell everyone which of the suggested books we will focus on for the week (or for two weeks? What do you think?) and who will be writing the review. This will probably be the person who suggested the book. Then, in one or two weeks, the person who wrote this book review will choose the next book and the next reviewer. I would suggest that if you haven't read the book, you will probably want to read it.

I think we should do it bi-weekly, just to give people more time to read the book.

I second that.

I'm so sorry, I forgot to tell everyone what book we'll be reading.

Well, Majestic Mary proposed we choose The Girl Who Drank the Moon, and Lupine agreed, and I enjoyed that book too, so that is my choice! MM, could you make the review, please?

submitted by @Majestic Mary, your doing the review!

I figured I wouldn't read the Book of the Week(s) this time cause I've already read it, but my mom got the Girl Who Drank The Moon on audiobook for us just as a coincidence, so I guess I am rereading it! So far the audiobook is really good (sometimes the narrators aren't great), so if you like audiobooks you could check that out.
