Chatterbox: Blab About Books
Words
Hi everybuggy! ...
Hi everybuggy!
I wasn't quite sure where to put this, but I thought that since books had words, this might be a good place. So basically, you can post any words you find interesting, unusual, important, sound nice, or that you just like. If you found the word in a book, you can name that too. Also, if you invent a word, those are welcome too (with their definition).
Obviously, nothing offensive, mean, or controversial.
Here, I'll start:
Delphinium

one of my fave words is Onomatopoeia.
Onomatopoeia ~the formation of a word from a sound associated with what it is named
That definition is kinda unclear, it's just the one from the internet. Basically an onomatopoeia is a sound affect word like boom, bark, boo, achoo, and splash. :D

LOVE THIS!!! This is my place. WORD NERDS!! Do you know how many times I've been told, "I don't speak smart"?
One sec, checking dictionary.
Just found this one-
Percolate noun, to ooze through, to filter through.
I also like "acid" because it took me forever to learn how to pronounce.

I like the word Yarak. It’s a falconry term meaning: fit, keen and ready to fly. It’s usually only applied to shortwings. ‘Sharp set’ is the correct term for longwings.

Most kids my age don't know my favorite word! I figured here people are more likely to know it.
Inkling - noun - a slight knowledge or suspicion; a hint ; (thesaurus): idea, vague idea, notion, glimmering; sense, impression, suggestion, indication, whisper,
suspicion, sneaking suspicion, fancy, hunch; knowledge, slight knowledge;

But seriously, I love words. Also, there's this book where the main character LOVES homonyms! It's called Rain Reign by Ann M. Martin. :P
