Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Favorite Book Quotes
So, I haven't...

So, I haven't been on Blab about Books much before, but anyways.

This is a post where you can post favorite quotes from a book you are reading, (or have read.) It can be funny, thought provoking, inspiring, or just a quote from a book that makes you smile.

Feel free to talk about a certain quote with other CBers if you want to. :)

If you post a quote, please be sure to add what book the quote came from,  and who the author is.

P.S. Admins, I'd love to hear some of your favorite quotes from books too if you have any! :)

Anyways-

I've recently been reading the book "Atlantia" by: Allie Condie, (side note, she's coming to where I live, and I'm super excited about that!!!)

Anyways. These are a few quotes from the book that I thought were interesting and thought provoking in a way:

"People love a spectacle. Give them something to watch, and you will make them happy... so much of life is in the smallest of moments. But they are harder to mark, so we need the grander celebrations and occasions. People like to feel signifacant." (Yes, this is one long quote, but there are many little parts of it that are thought provoking. Or at least to me, they are.)

"They say sierens are miracles not people... can you believe such a thing? People can be miracles." (I think that the part of "people can be miracles" is so true. I've had many people in my life who have shown tender mercies to me.)

"You are a good girl Rio."

"I hurt Bay... and I wanted to!"

"But you were sorry after and you don't want to do it again. That is the difference."

(The part I like best about the quote above is that it shows the effects of forgiveness and repentence. You are made stronger if you forgive and show that you don't want to do whatever you did wrong again. I believe this to be true.)

Alright, that's it for now! I'll probably post more later. :)

"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.' To this day, especially in times of 'disaster,' I remember my mother's words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers—so many caring people in this world."

" 'Buckets of crud!' "- Alex, Unwanteds

" "If you're going play, can't you at least play it right?' Sebastian whined.

'If you're going to complain, can't you at least do it in your head?' Andres called."- Upside-Down Magic

I'll do more later, these were just funny ones I remembered.

"It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be" - Albus Dumbledore

"Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?” - Albus Dumbledore

“You know, Minister, I disagree with Dumbledore on many counts...but you cannot deny he's got style...” - Phineas Nigellus

"He must have known I'd want to leave you." - Ron Weasley
"No, he must have known you would always want to come back.” - Harry Potter

“Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!” - Albus Dumbledore

[“He accused me of being Dumbledore's man through and through." - Harry Potter

"How very rude of him." - Albus Dumbledore

"I told him I was." - Harry Potter                                                                      Dumbledore opened his mouth to speak and then closed it again. Fawkes the phoenix let out a low, soft, musical cry. To Harry's intense embarrassment, he suddenly realized that Dumbledore's bright blue eyes looked rather watery, and stared hastily at his own knee. When Dumbledore spoke, however, his voice was quite steady.

"I am very touched, Harry.” - Albus Dumbledore]

“Ah, music," he said, wiping his eyes. "A magic beyond all we do here!” - Albus Dumbledore

“What happened down in the dungeons between you and Professor Quirrell is a complete secret, so, naturally the whole school knows.” - Albus Dumbledore

“But Dumbledore says he doesn't care what they do as long as they don't take him off the Chocolate Frog cards.” - One of the Weasley twins. Maybe Fred? Dunno.

'Killing is not so easy as the innocent believe." - Albus Dumbledore

“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” - Albus Dumbledore

Alright I'm going to stop here even though there are SO MANY MORE. These are, obviously, all from Harry Potter (various books in the series) by J.K. Rowling.

<Baha> What's so funny?

I have a feeling she's laughing at the fourth to last one. Oh, and the fourth one.

Probably.

"He did not want to be loved as a second choice, as a surrender. He had spent his whole life not being loved at all, and he thought being loved enough would satisfy him. It would not... He wanted to be loved overwhelmingly... He had never been chosen, so he never had a chance to know this about himself before now: He wanted to be chosen first." — In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan

"Wicked people love wickedly, violent people love violently, weak people love weakly... but the love of a free man is never safe. There is no gift for the beloved. The lover alone posesses his gift of love. The loved one is shorn, neutralized, frozen in the glare of the lover's inward eye." — The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison

"Most women suffer thorns for the sake of their flowers, but we who wield power adorn ourselves with flowers to hide the sting of our thorns." — King of Scars by Leigh Bardguo

"The dead go on, but the living... We just stay here." — The Refugees by Viet Thanh Nguyen

"You aren't afraid of the things you believe in." — The Refugees by Viet Thanh Nguyen

"When we migrate, we murder from our lives those we leave behind." — Exit West by Mohsin Hamid

"That is the way of things, with cities as with life, for one moment we are pottering about our errands as usual and the next we are dying, and our enternally impending ending does not put a stop to our transient beginnings and middles until the instant when it does." — Exit West by Mohsin Hamid

I have read thousands of books in my lifetime but the one that stuck with me the most was Maxi's Secrets by Lynn Plourde, even though it made me cry a little.

Here is my favorite quote:

"When I start to breathe again, I realize having Maxi in my life will always be a bigger deal than losing Maxi. Her tail will always thump-thump-thump against my heart."-Lynn Plourde, Maxi's Secrets
