Chatterbox: Blab About Books
Final Thoughts on the Elementi Chronicles
As some of you may know, I used to be writing a book called Hidden, the first in a series called the Elementi Chronicles. Due to personal reasons, I've decided to stop writing the book. However, I did promise Esthelle that I'd make a thread about the ideas and possible endings I had for this book, so here it is!
NOTE: This thread contains spoilers for said book. You can read it in all of its terrible glory here: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/blababoutbooks/node/200123
First off: discarded ending ideas.
1: Sheena follows Narwhal to each of the Essences, arriving just too late to save them.
I didn't use this idea because it would've been repetetive and boring, and I would get tired of writing the same sequence over and over.
2: The book ends at the point I left off on on the main thread. Narwhal takes the Terra Essence and kills Sheena and Terra. Now that he is the bearer of two Elements, he is over twice as powerful as the strongest leader, and no one can stop him. Although the book ends, it is implied that he absorbs the other Essences, and the Elementi fall.
I didn't choose this ending because it would've been sad and wouldn't feel worth it. All this struggle, just to die and let the bad guy win? Not to mention, all my readers would probably be disappointed with me.
3: Sheena beats Narwhal to the Terra Essence, falling into the pull of its power. She betrays Terra, taking the Essence for herself, and becomes the villain.
I didn't choose this because it doesn't feel right. Out of Sheena's two sides, I want the good to prevail over evil. After all she's been through, she deserves it. I don't want her to be reduced to a villain, although it would have been interesting to explore the repercussions of this decision, and how it affects her.
4: When she catches up to Narwhal - wHOOPS I'M WRITING THIS ONE! (New part on the thread soon!) Why did I know this was going to happen)

Headshot designs for Sheena and Narwhal.

Those are amazing, Scylla! So pretty! I love your style. Both of them look great. Sheena's my favorite. Great job on the eyes!

Ten thousand thanks, Scylla! I really enjoyed reading these.
1: I agree this might have been a bit tedius, but it would have been a lot of fun to see the other Tribes and Essences in closer detail. I liked it when you would describe the leopards, and the "dungeons'" Sheena fights to reach her goal.
2: This would have been a surprising ending, but I think you're right, it would have emptied the story of meaning and seemed rather strange and point;ess. You don't usually want to kill everyone and have the bad guy win until you've built enough story, emotion, and character-drive to make it meaningful.
3: O.O This was an interesting one! But I agree about good prevailing in the story, and besides, it's a fine and perilous line between "cool plot twist" and "let's all jump the shark."
4: Now for number four. WHAT? DOES THIS MEAN YOU'RE WRITING MORE?????!!! I have to go see!

Your artwork is gorgeous, Scylla! How did you do the spots? And I agree with Leeli: those eyes are exquisite! Very expressive.

Aah thank you! I'm working on more character headshots, so check the thread often!
For the spots (called rosettes), I used this tutorial made by someone on an art website. I'd show you, but I don't think I'm allowed to post things I didn't draw?

Thanks for the image! That's a really interesting style, I never would have guessed it was so simple! Of course, it may look simple to me now, but where I to attempt it... ;D And it looks like its takes time and care to get all those little lines in their places.

Ahem. With all due respect, politeness, and frankness: TOP!!!!! Please.
