Chatterbox: Blab About Books

The Clique Series by Lisi Harrison
Have any of...

Have any of you read The Clique or any of the books in the series? I am reading the series right now, and I absolutely LOVE it. A lot of the drama that occurs doesn't seem so realistic but it's fun to read about it. It gives you an idea of how extreme cliques, drama, and other girly things can get and how crazy some people can be *cough cough MASSIE cough cough* to be popular!

I don't know if a lot of you would like it with the overload of designer brands and rich people, but thats sort of how I started. *FLASHBACK!*

Kinaya: (Sees Clique series) New York Times Bestseller!? #1?!! And I haven't even heard of these books! But there's nothing else to read...unless you want to read that cheesy, awful (no offense) vampire series. It's worth a stab!

(For the next month)

Mom: KINAYA!!!! Come on!!! Stop reading and come eat!

Kinaya: Coming...in one hour!

So as you see, I am hooked to this series. So if you want a good read for the summer and are willing to give any book a try, try The Clique by Lisi Harrison!

Hmm... I've seen them at the library, but they didn't look (or sound) very well-written when I scanned the first few chapters. Are they really that good?

No offense, but these didn't look particularly appealing- to me, anyway. Too stereotypical and unrealistic. I mean, just look at the titles. *cough* Invasion of the Boy Snatchers? Revenge of the Wannabes? Uh, what?

Well, I haven't read them, but I have seen the titles at a bookstore, and they do look kind of, um, well, stereotypical and unrealistic, as Mary said. But I haven't read them, so I'm not judging a book by their titles.

I've read a bit, and it was overdramatized and made girls look really bad. I stopped reading, no offense to any fans. :/

The way it was written of course is not very outstanding. I wouldn't say it is steryotypical because a lot of young adult fiction isn't about drama and such. It's mostly romance and love. It's good though because it gives the story, a lot of the time, from the view of the mean girls instead of how in other stories it gives the view of the person being picked on by the mean girls. But of course, everybody has their own opinion! :D

That actually sounds interesting. I mean, not many stories are written from the 'mean girls' perspective.

I didn't say cliched; I said stereotpical. It endorses the sterotypical views that all girls that age are mean and petty and gossipy. I'll give you that otherwise the POVs and themes are a bit original, though I can't see why it's so intoxicating to read about such main characters as, say, Massy. (By the way, note how much her name sounds like "massive block.") It must be awfully difficult to connect with the characters when they're like that.

But yes, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. :)

I'm not sure the author is trying to put the mean girls in a bad light. But yeah, these books just don't look appealing to me.
