A new book?

Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Harry potter: The cursed child
A new book?...

A new book? NO idea? What about Harry potter the cursed child? Thats relativly new right? I think this entery is going to be recommdants about that Harry Potter book.  Its a good book, but it lackes the depth of the charatchers that the usually harry potter books have. It is a play script that is surprisingly good for a play script. I wouldn't call it a book, although seem people do call it a book. I call it a "play script inside of a book cover."  At first I thought it wasn't a book, because i had never seen it before. But then i saw this 5th grader named Bricen reading it and I could see it was a play script.

I wasn't so excited about it once I made that discovery. I was able to read it when I saw it at the libary. So I give it 4 stars out of five, so it words that would mean good. I would not pay for it at a store. It isn't that good of a book. I would get it from the libray for free.

The other harry potter books that are actulaly  books are much better. I would pay for those at a store any day.

Yeah, I thought that the characters lacked depth too. And it would've been better as a book. I didn't really like the plot line either. 2 Stars.

And the other Harry Potter books were so good!

Albus and Scorpius should have been a couple. The only reason I really need a sequel to the Cursed Child is so that they can get together.

I really did not like that "book". Everyone is so out of character, but I can't talk about specifics without giving away spoilers. Besides that, The Cursed Child goes against what a lot of Harry Potter 4+ says about the universe, with the added bonus of lots of plot holes. So you kind of  have to decide for yourself what is canon and what isn't, which isn't good for a series. Honestly, to me it reads more like fanfic, and some lines seem to be taken straight from Dramione fanfic. I actually did research on the book, and bought it a while ago just to read it and see how much I dislike it (I know, horrible reason to buy a book). I thought I would still find it enjoyable, just not up to par with the rest of the series, but when I read it, I hated it.

Yes, I agree. I found the basis of the plotline disgusting, horrible and frankly sexist and objectifying (trying to explain this without spoilers... the plotline that involves Scorpio's mom and Malfoy's supposed plan? AND the thing with Delphini meant that *blank human* had a child with *another blank human* which is just gross). The whole thing with Cedric confused me, especially because even humiliation wouldn't make him do something like that... that just goes against his character! On that note, ALL of the characters were acting very strange, I agree, and unlike themselves... this is also mainly because of the fact that J. K. Rowling didn't write it. It was mainly the screenwriters with a tiny bit of input from her (so it is like a professional fanfic, I guess XD). You can see the difference when reading the Fantastic Beasts script. Eve just the screenplay has her magic, and you can really picture the world! I would suggest that, rather than this. It was interesting to read but very weird. I give it 3 - 3 1/2 stars (although the actual play is supposed to be better).

I think Jo did none of the actual writing. From what I've heard, she wrote a short story that the play was based on, but John Tiffany and Jack Thorne wrote the actual play. I didn't hate it, but I didn't think it was as great as the Harry Potter books or Fantastic Beasts. I agree that Rose should have had a much bigger role, but not as Scorpius' love interest. Albus and Scorpius should have been a couple. I think that it's the curse of most reboots and long awaited sequels that they can never really live up to the idealized versions of the original.

Hm... AlbuScorp*? Scorbus? Hyperius? (Hyperius is courtesy of Blue Smoke, who put together Albus's and Scorpius's middle names together when we were dicussing it- I know her IRL) Scorpibus?

Cedric Diggory acted really out of character in this book, I agree. In the fourth book he was humble and polite- and in this one, because he was embarrased, he's a Death Eater?! That makes no sense. (Probably because J. K. Rowling didn't write it.) I did sort of like the time stuff, but Hermione? She's practical and smart! She would know better than to keep a time-turner! @SopranoTwo, I agree, the *BIG SPOILER ALERT* Voldermort and Bellatrix stuff *SPOILER ENDED*  was kind of gross.

@General Waffleson and June, it would probably be fine if you joined the sort-of debate. We'll keep it friendly. I'm interested to hear why you liked it and what you thought of it.

*AlbuScorp could be seen as Albus Corp (Corporation), which sounds scary...

Yeah, ANYONE doing ANYTHING with Voldemort is just gross. I HIGHLY dislike the fact that everyone assumes that *SPOILERRRR* Draco would send his wife back in time to get pregnant with Voldemort's baby so that the line wouldn't end. Like, what? And to assume that she would just do that because he told her to? Horrible. Sexist. OBJECTIFYING! *SPOILER ENDEDDDDD* Snape, Cedric, and Harry acted super out of character and weird, and Harry was the worst dad ever. XD Anyway, I think it was interesting, but not great. If you liked it, that's awesome, though! to each their own. I agree with @Pepper Star about the friendly debate. :)
