Tolkein!
I was shocked...

I was shocked to find that a good many of my friends had never been exposed to Tolkein's spectacular works of fantasy, including The Hobbit, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, The Return of The King, The Silmarillion, and the other tomes of middle earth. This is the thread to discuss the King of Fantasy and his books.

Tolkein is an amazing author! I loved The Hobbit and LotR! Unfortunately, The Silmarillion was too difficult for me to get through, however.

Right. The Silmarillion is NOT hard, and I loooooove it.  Try reading it again later . When I first attempted it, I thought, waaaaaay too hard. But now I realize it is the GREATEST .  I absolutely loooove Idril celebrindal (beautiful silver-foot), the elven princess. And , btw, Luthien Tinuviel is lovely.

Well, I loved The Hobbit and LOTR. I am currently reading the Silmarillion. He was a bizarre genius.

I love Tolkein! Almost all of the best fantasy writers are British. (Diana Wynne Jones, JKR, C.S. Lewis, and, of course, Tolkein.

I read The Hobbit. I agree that C.S. Lewis is a FABULOUS author.
