Calling historical fiction team: Abi C., Inktail, Booksy owly, and me, Dandelion
We can post ideas and stuff here and find a good topic, have discussions, and share stories etc...
I had 2 ideas: we don't have to use them, but here they are)
- We could write about a girl or boy traveling west in the 1850s or 60s, about the struggles and hardships of leaving home, and on the way. It could be a really cool story.
- About a girl in a factory during the Industrial Revolution, and the challenges there were during that time period.
What do you guys think??

Name: Phoenix (or Poe for short)
Gender: Male
Age: 16-ish, he doesn't know his exact age.
Backstory: A runaway slave who escaped at the age of 12 and made his way to Boston, where he started work at a factory. He wants to enlist in the 54th Massachusetts Regiment (the first all-black fighting military regiment) in order to fight for the Union.
Appearance: Dark brown skin, sharp obsidian eyes. Curly hair cut close to his scalp. Kind of tall. Badly broke his left leg at age 14 and didn't get it set correctly, so it's a little shorter than his right. He walks awkwardly, with something of a limp. He's become used to it, however, and it isn't much of an impediment on a day-to-day basis.
He has several variations of a similar outfit— Patched-up wool trousers, a slightly large linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up
Personality: Closed off, careful, very deliberate. Doesn't rush into things, the sort to calculate every step before taking it. Loyal, stubborn, difficult to persuade to change his opinion. Unflinching in the face of danger. Can be aloof to the point of extreme haughtiness. Generally a good guy, but really not an easy person to like. He nibbles on his lip when thinking.
Other: Open to shipping. I know a TON TON TON about the 54th, Colonel Shaw, and all that, so if any of you decide to make a character who interacts with them I have you covered.

More on my charrie:
Often wears blue dresses. Really hates working in the factory, it feels like slavery to her.
Back story - Her family lived in Vermont on a farm, and her father owned a furniture shop. Because of the war, buisness became really slow, and they went bankrupt and lost their farm. They moved south to Lowell, MA, to live on a refugee camp. She and her sister went to work in the mills to make money for her family.
