Chatterbox: Blab About Books
Greetings fellow book lovers! This post is for A Pocketful of Murder, by RJ Anderson. I read this book and its companion, A Little Taste of Poison, several months ago, and fell in love with them. They aren't super well known, but hopefully this will encourage you to look them up and devour them as I did.
A Pocketful of Murder is a mystery. It centers around Isaveth Breck, whose father is accused of murdering the governor of the local college. She knows he is innocent and with the help of a boy who befriends her, named Quiz, sets out to prove his innocence.
My favorite part of the book is how realistically it portrays Isaveth's feelings. The city where seh lives is powered by magis, and she has a talent for making the common tablets, such as fire, light, and simple tracking spells. Quiz is a unusual boy with mood swings and long disappearances, but Isaveth trusts him. The plot has a mild political flavor, and the twists are shocking and page turn inducing. All in all, the book is excellent. If you have read it, please comment. I would love to discuss it with you.
