I'm trying not

Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Warriors: What I hate
I'm trying not...

I'm trying not to make this be mad, but..well....here we go..I'll do it in rhyme so that it's funny. Here goes.

~Deaths, deaths, killing every kitten, murdering every musk rose (DON'T JUDGE I SUCK AT RHYMING!)

~There is trouble in the clans! A group of cats go save the day, yay! (throughout this, insert rogues and sibling rivalry as needed. Oh, and deaths. By the way, this was not my original idea.)

~I normally respect how books twist reality, and then erase flaws until they are in specks. But however, this went too far, because this book doesn't entirely use magic. Cats aren't...like that. Like, they are normally solo...but it's not supposed to be realistic, I shouldn't complain. There goes my argument--down the drain.

~I'm barely clinging to my rhyme. Well, that's fine. (EH?!)

~Deaths! Deaths! Deaths make a big mess! Kill off like every MC but maybe three?

~HUNTING! HUNTING! LOOK, MOMMY, I CAUGHT AN INDIGO BUNTING! Yum, nom nom.

~Dogs are barbaric criminals, and deserve to live in bogs. This is so untrue, dogs are kind, they have a mind! They can coexist with kittens, wether it is a Warrior or a KittyPet named Mittens!

~How do write like tommorow won't arrive? How do you write like you need it to survive--AND STILL HAVE THE BOOK BE GOOD?

~They stole from Watership Down, and it makes me frown.

~I like JayStick. There's nothing that rhymes with that, except maybe Flitwick?

Yup, I pretty much agree with everything you said! I enjoy the series, but yes, it DEFINETLY has it's flaws.

I fell like you kind of have to suspend your sense of reality. I have a cat, and she hates  other cats. The first book series is good, though

I might try that :)

But....in all seriousness, have you read Watership Down?

I have! It is quite good, although a teeeny bit thick. In the writing style.

Anyways, I love warriors, but I do have the same dog problem-cats and dogs can be friends!

Still, I think if you don't like it just don't read it.

Here comes a polite rebuttal from a Warriors fan!

~Deaths are natural, especially for wild animals. I like that the Erins are just showing how life in nature progresses, as well as showing off a bit of human nature in that people will kill each other! They also don't sugar-coat anything or make text flowery trying to cover up what happened. Warriors isn't a cute fairytale for 7-year olds, and I appreciate that.

~It's a bit unfair to any series to shrink it down like that. For instance, you could call Harry Potter "orphan boy and friends must find magical items and save the world! Insert love drama and betrayals when needed, end with the good guys winning." I love both series, but you can't get a good feel for the best parts of the story by shortening it to its worst plot devices.

~Cats don't form complex political structures, either. It's not supposed to be realistic, and it's not supposed to be magical. Warriors is its own blend of fantasy and reality, kind of like humans--but cats.

~??

~Again, deaths are normal. Cats don't have as long of lives as humans, and they fight more and are more susceptible to diseases. They're gonna die. And MCs die because you can't keep someone alive forever. It's more emotional and touching when you see an MC die, and go to StarClan.

~...yes, cats hunt. It's how they eat. They're carnivores who need meat to survive. And of course a kit will be proud when it catches it's first meal--wouldn't you want to show off your accomplishments to family?

~This is a valid point, except if you were a small, fast animal and you saw an enormous hound coming at you, teeth bared, very fast and strong, wouldn't you be scared? Humans are scared of snakes, yet most aren't really that bad. If you were a cat, being scared of a dog is perfectly normal, even if the dog only wants to play. And this is a story told from the viewpoints of cats, not dogs, remember. Cats will tell it how cats see it, and in cat eyes, dogs are scary and unintelligent.

~Hey, I like the books! Yes, maybe a few are kind of off, but for the most part they're all good, and surprisingly so at the rate the Erins write them. Sometimes it falls onto old plots, but you can guarantee there's always something new going on.

~They didn't 'steal' anything. Maybe you could say the plots are similar, but that's like saying "Percy Jackson stole from Harry Potter because they both have boys with magical powers as the MC." Yes, the novels are somewhat similar, but there are enough differences to make Warriors its own unique book series.

~:) There's nothing I can rebut about this one. Everyone has different views on shipping characters, and I respect that. Personally I loooove Jayfeather x Half Moon, because it's so sad and heartbreaking, but you can ship whoever you like. Ship Firestar and Sorreltail for all I care! Do what you want.

Again, none of this was intended to be offensive. I'm just defending a series I love and anyone would do the same. Thank you for reading this far!

I know. :0 But if you think about it, Graystripe and Mistystar are even older. Crazy!!

Mistystar is younger than him. But she needs to die soon ... *sobs over her broken body*

Graystripe probably is going to die here soon though. *grabs Sandstorm from StarClan and ressurects her*

No, no no no no no!

I get and respect that! It's fine. :)

BUT, I do have to point out--  "orphan boy and friends must find magical items and save the world! Insert love drama and betrayals when needed, end with the good guys winning.

That's SOOO untrue about Harry Potter. It can't be repetitive because the books, for one, aren't 'finding magical items' that's more of--AVERT YE EYES, CHO!!!--in the last book. OKAY YOU CAN LOOK NOW! And also, Harry Potter is one series, with seven books (I'm not even going to accept the Cursed Child.)

Nyeh.

I have two friends who are extreme warriors fans--they talk about it every two minutes, not kidding, and they agree, and Erin Hunter (well, one of them) has admitted this--she did steal the prophecy from Watership Down, but the rest was light borrowing.

"Cats will tell things how Cats see it". But Cats are capable, and can see, being friends with dogs is possible. It is possible, and they can see it, and for one, why would a dog randomly bear on them with teeth if it wasn't a wild coyote or wolf? And, for one, wild coyotes DO NOT attack everything that they see. I know because--that's a story for later.

And when deaths get to the point where you don't allow yourself to get attached to the MCs because you know they're going to die? I don't mind the gore, but it's a little too crazy when I don't even let myself love the MCs.

Otherwise, I agree with you, that did help. :)

(~I have the honor to be, your obedient serv'nt, who cannot stop singing Hamilton,~)

Yay! I love the Warriors series, although I do admit it has its flaws. But then again, what doesn't?

The only two things I want to say is:

True, dogs can and do become friends with cats, but... warriors are wild. Except for Rusty (who even then never lived with a nice dog), they've never experienced a friendly dog, one who isn't chasing them. Even rogues, who live in Twolegplace, have bad views of dogs because they'll be chased by feral and fierce hounds. Warrior cats have probably never once experienced a friendly dog who just wants to play, because they just haven't been around any. And tales are spread among the Clans. In books, cats from ShadowClan are majorly hyped up in ThunderClan to point where they say "ShadowClan cats kill their kits and live to fight!", when in reality they're just cats. Rumors are spread easily, and if one scared apprentice is chased by a big dog, he's gonna start saying how bad dogs are, and maybe other cats will believe him.

And secondly, I don't think it's difficult to get attached to the cats because they're so... human-like. Even little kits who were just born have personalities and feelings, and elders who have lived forever have stories. MC deaths (i.e. Silverstream sacrificing herself for Crowpaw) have a lot of gusto to them. AND you also know she's not gone forever--they can still be spoken to from StarClan, and at the end of cat's lives they'll join them there too. In the end, you don't truly have to say goodbye.

(Also, I want to apologize--nothing should be summed down like that. I adore the Harry Potter books and don't really believe what I summarized them as. It's not at all like the plot, and is just the worst dregs to the worst part. Sorry about that.)

I believe I was the original person to come up with the 2nd point. (I worded it differently though.) What I intended by that was I really loved Warriors for a long time. After reading the first few series and several of the extra books, I got bored. They started of excellently, but the longer it dragged on the more repetitive the overall concept was.
