Chatterbox: Blab About Books
Sample
This is a sample of the book I'm writing, called the Personal Files of Amber S. Hawkes. Below is a sample of the first book in the series, Journey to Emmadimia. It takes place in the middle of the book, so if it is confusing, I understand. This is a book I have been writing since I was seven, and I really care about it. The characters seem like family now, if you know what I mean ;) I hope you enjoy it!
She walked through the golden fields, to the rock they had chosen as their meeting place. She looked at the sky. High noon. He was late. She sat on the rock and tucked a piece of her wild brown hair behind her ear, gazing at the shimmery grain that separated Tomia from the forest. Now that she had been waiting awhile, she noticed movement in the field. It was coming from the tomian side.
Rory stood up, gazing at the tomian empire. "The wind told me so."

Teally? You like it that much? I'm honestly flattered! I'm sorry, I can't give you much more yet. You see, I wrote the first sentence and the last sentence, and right now I'm working on filling in all the places in between. I spent all last year working on the plot, plot twists, characters, character sketches, character development, villains, and world-building. I have a many more excerpts, but I need to work on piecing them together. If you really want me to, I can give you some more pieces. For now, though, I'll give you a summary of the first book:
After her foster home burns to the ground, a foster child falls through a reflecting pond in the woods of Connecticut, and is transported into another world. She learns that they call this world Emmadimia, and there is magic here. She also learns of a desperate fight between the native Emmadimians and the Tomians, outsiders from across the sea. She takes on the name Amber, and decides that until she learns how to go back to earth, she will fight alongside the Emmadimians. But there is more going on than what meets the eye, and she is running out of time. Will Amber ever be able to escape the beauty of Emmadimia and find her way back to earth before the war begins?
The story is mostly told in first person, past tense, and there are going to be five books. I don't have all the names picked out for them, yet, but I know the first one (obviously) and the fourth one's going to be called escape from Emmadimia. I am working on writing a part of the first book now. I hope to have the first finished by next year, and am going to get this done by writing a page (or more!) a night. Once I finish, I will post it here. For now, here is a sketch of the boy from the peace above.

Okay, since two people asked, I will post more...
This is a scene from the last book, right before the Emmadimian army and the Tomian army go to battle, and Amber's observing the beauty that she know will soon be destroyed.
I never thought that I would have seen the Grain Fields In-Between become a battlefield. According to Rory, even though Emmadimian and New Tomia had been on the verge of war for centuries, the Grain Fields had always been neutral territory, a no man's land, if you will. The Tomians had never wanted the Fields of Grain, for it took to much work to clear the grain and farm and build from scratch, and the Emmadimians, although certainly capable, had never done it because they never wanted the Tomians to know they were organized and living close. So the fields had always just been there, a place to go if you wanted to be alone, or maybe even meet someone in secret. Never, not even during the Great War, had they been used for bloodshed. That day was different though. Oh so many firsts happened that day.
