Chatterbox: Blab About Books
How many KP fans are there here? Hopefully lots!! If you have never heard of Katherine Paterson before, go look under the "p" section in the library and grab her nearest book! She writes powerful and emotional realistic fiction for kids and teens. Katherine Paterson really captures the feelings of childhood in a way that connects you to the story. Jacob Have I Loved and Bridge to Teribithia by her are listed as classics by a trusted source of mine (check out my CB bookshelf kid-friendly classics list!). We'll start with some of my favorites...
Jacob Have I Loved
This book struck me right in the heart. The main character, Sarah Louise, has a twin sister who is the "favorite" and who always seems to get thing right. I understood what Sarah Louise was going through, and by the end of the book, I literally felt every awful misunderstanding as if the events in the book had happened to me. Sarah Louise is a deeply developed character with human flaws and interests and obsessions. I especially loved her observations and descriptions of the other characters, such as a time when she decided to look at everyone's nails to see what type of person they were. I reccomend this book to anyone who (like me) loves powerful realistic fic.
Bridge to Teribithia
Friendship is a powerful thing. Some friends can come along and change everything. That's what happened to Jesse. One day, Leslie Burke stepped into his life and gave him something of true value. A belief in magic. Not the visible, sparkling kind, but the magic found in a silent grove of pines, or in swinging across a creek to get to another world. Leslie opens up Jesse's mind to the magic around him, all found in his imagination... but can the king and queen of the imaginary land of Teribithia truly have a long and happy reign?
There are many others, but it's after nine and I'm winding down for the evening. PLEASE add your own thoughts and reviews and ask questions. Lots of questions!!! Loads of questions!!!! I'm happy to answer anything I can about one of my favorite authors.

Ive read both of them! She doesn't really do for the classic, expected fairy tale ending. She surprises you!
Jacob have I loved was really deep and emotional, and I think we can all relate to that Someone in our lives that it so much more perfect than us.
Bridge to Terabithia was amazing. I. Opulent out it down, and instantly bought the movie, which is an awesome movie¡ it is definitely more on the Fantasy side than the Jacob one, but great all the same.
