s.f., The Mozart Season, by Virginia Euwer Wolff, is interesting (in a good way). It's about a girl (Allegra, she even has a musical sounding name!) who plays a Mozart violin concerto and enters a musical competition. Even though it's not exactly the most exciting book, it's still a fun read.

Do you mean histoical fiction or science fiction?  I can reccomend tons of historical fiction, but not to much science fiction...

I really enjoyed the Sammy Keyes books when I was 12.  They're both mystery and realistic fiction. They are really funny.

One of my favorite realistic fiction books is The Penderwicks. It's a LOL funny book. It's a summer tale of four sisters, two rabbits, and a very strange boy. I love it.
