Chatterbox: Blab About Books
So! If you are reading this and are really confused cause you've never heard of some crazy book called DragonRiders: Element Quest, keep going! This started off as two characters that me and my best friend made up one day, and it has now spiraled into whatever the heck it is now.
I have a basic plot line going. Kind of. So, there were these four people. Their names were Melena, Gereath, Emeralia, and Ithros. They were the Elementals. Gereath was fire, Melena was water, Ithros was air, and Emeralia was earth. When these four were alive, it wasn't uncommon to have elemental magic, since all the elves had magic, and elves and humans ah, intermingled, magic spread through the human population. But one day, all magic started to disappear. The elves weren't affected, but all the human's magic was completely gone by the end of a few weeks, except for the Elementals'. Most people assume it was because one of all of their parents was an elf. Anyway, they still had their magic, but not all of it. They were able to track the magic that had left them to a big mountain somewhere, ran into each other, explained themselves, and snuck inside. Basically, an evil sorceress (Morgassa or something maybe?) who had born with no magic was bitter, and decided to steal all the magic in the world. Now, this sorceress had a son who was about the Elementals' age, but he had been born with magic (No one knows how, but probably it was from his father, whose identity is also unknown). Because of his gifts, the boy's mother was very mean to him, though he never knew why. So, the Elementals helped him to escape, and he came back with them to their base. There, they learned what Morgassa wanted with all that magic. She was creating her own element, Darkness. Now, her son was born with Dark magic, so he was the actual Dark Elemental, but his mother is usually referred to as Darkness. So the Elementals (we've got five now) just hung out for a while, trying to figure out what to do. Then they found the last Elemental. A girl came to them, begging for their help. Her parents had been killed by Morgassa's minions. The five felt sorry for her, and let her stay with them. Their base was in the middle of a forest, and one day while she was exploring the girl found an old elvish temple. She showed the other five, and they all went into a kind of trace. The four original Elementals went over the the corners, and suddenly blasted the girl, who was standing in the middle of the temple, with their magic while the boy watched in amazement. As Darkness, he had no place in the ritual, but he rather like the girl, so he stuck around. So the girl was revealed to be Light. The six Elementals matched up the mountain, and the girl blasted Morgassa with her Light magic and all the captured magic was released. Morgassa was banished from Flayng, and life went on. However, the magic didn't go back to the people that it came from, and nobody really knows where it went.
The elves never came back very much after the Great Morgassa Incident, and elemental magic never returned. Darkness(the boy) married Light, and the other Elementals married as well. They had children and lived happily ever after. But, that was like forever ago.
Now, we come to our charries. (This part really sounds like the inside of one of the HoO covers.)
Reena doesn't really know anything about her parents. She was found wandering outside of the twin of Chartouse at age three, covered in ash and soot. The healer of the town, Guenar, took pity on her, and raised her. Now, over ten years later, she lives in her own little hut littered with mechanical contraptions. She and her best friend Giselle are the resident DragonRiders of Chartouse, and therefore watch over all Matchings(when you are matched with your dragon) and training of others. However, the girls of Chartouse have absolutely no interest in dragons, and the boys... Well, the less said about the boys, the better. Let's just say they aren't the smartest boys.
Giselle is getting tired of her mother. For the last three years, ever since she turned 12, her mother has been OBSESSED with getting Giselle a rich husband. Nowadays Giselle survives by sneaking out to fly on her dragon, Aria, on occasion, but mostly in avoiding her house as much as possible. Reena was the one who convinced her to even try to be Matched, and she helped her a lot with Aria.
Yolen is..... Interesting. As one of the 'not so smart boys' aforementioned, he is not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he has more common sense than he usually shows.
So, yeah. My charrie is Reena, me friend is Giselle, and Yolen is just a combination of all the annoying boys we have ever know. (No offense to the boy CBers, but we know some pretty annoying boys. Mostly our four brothers. And some others. But not you guys.) What do you guys think? I'll post some of the story if you want me to later.

Ok....
Chapter 1
Reena sat up on her bundle of blankets that served as a bed, hardly keeping herself from screaming. She hated the dream and the way it made her feel like a scared little girl again.
Wandering through the woods that surrounded three sides of Chartouse, she would stumble into the den of one terrible creature after another, first a lion, then a wolf, and so many others she lost count. The strange thing was, none of the disturbed animals seemed to want to hurt her, they seemed rather in awe of her.
Softly growling or hissing or whatever they did, they would gently shoo her out of their homes back into the wood, bowing slightly as they did so.
Finally, she found a cave that seemed better than the rest. Fire glowed inside, promising warmth and possibly a kind human face for a scared three year old.
Peering hopefully inside, Reena would find herself face-to-face with an enormous coal-black dragon with teeth as long as her hand and eyes the color of rubies. She would scream, and run out into the woods, only to find three more dragons advancing from the trees.
Terrified, Reena would freeze and wait for the blast of heat that would shatter her to ashes, but it never came.
Turning, she found that all four of the dragons were cowering from a glowing ball of light that positioned itself right behind her.
She would stare into the light, certain that someone was concealed within the fiery inferno, only to wake up as the black dragon opened its massive jaws and roared, snuffing the light out.
Shivering, Reena wrapped herself in extra blankets and made a large mug of coffee. She would tell Guenar later, after she met Giselle at the market. Guenar always knew how to help her after one of her dreams. There were others, but this was the most frequent and frightening of the lot.
Sipping her scalding coffee and gazing out into the early spring sunrise, Reena thought through her tasks for the day. Her day was relatively empty, she only had to advertise Guenar's remedies and potions at the market, and help the occasional sick customer to his hut for treatment. The best part was she could spend the entire day with Giselle, as long as she could get out of any suitor meetings her mother arranged.
Giselle hated the meetings, and since Reena agreed with her, she sheltered her as much as she could. Ever since she turned 12, Giselle's mother became obsessed finding Giselle a rich husband. That had been about the time Reena had met Giselle, and she had often wondered if Giselle's mother wanted to keep her away from Reena.
Reena couldn't see any harm with the things they did together. If anything, Giselle had gotten healthier since meeting Reena as a pale, sickly girl of 12 with hair that was so blonde it was almost white. Reena was an active girl, and since finding Jackie when she was 8, had learned how to care for and ride almost any kind of dragon, as well as learning to use her sword and daggers. Riding dragons was a dangerous business after all. After meeting Reena, Giselle had started getting out of the house more and consequently had developed her own love of dragons and 'Outdoor activities' as her mother called their training. It was at Reena's urging that she had learned to use her bow and adopted Aria after all, when they got too big for Jackie to carry them both.(Which, due to Jackie's small size, wasn't too long after they met. Giselle's mother had loved her for that.)
Giselle's mother arranged at least two or three meetings a week, with any young men with even 1000 chardinkas to spare. Giselle had recounted several of her many close calls, with overenthusiastic anywhere from 13 to 30 getting a bit too close for comfort. ("How many times I wish I could have pulled out my bow on them!" She lamented)
Eager to start her day, Reena went through her morning routine, setting out a bowl of oil for her dragon automaton Samheed, sweeping any trinkets or metal prices into her 'Look At Later' pile, sort of making her bed. She was not a naturally tidy person, and her tiny shack was almost full to bursting with all her machines and mini-autos. She cooked a simple breakfast of eggs from Guenar's chicken coop and some bread from the old woman down the road, looking over her newest batch of automated mortar and pestle sets for Guenar to both use and sell as she ate.
Twenty minutes later she had showered, changed out of her simple blouse and pants she wore as pajamas, combed her hair, tucked it under her aviator cap, and was slipping her suspenders over her shoulders as she grabbed her sword, cinched on her scabbard, slipped a dagger into her boot, and headed out the door
