THE ELEMENTI CHRONICLES BOOK I: THE STONE OF SERENITY

Chapter I
___{:}___

The moonlight shone on the Lake's deep, fuchsia waters. Conifer trees fringed it, thickening into foreboding woods. The Lake was the center of the Faimón Forest, and it contained a great amount of magic. Its surface was smooth, undisturbed. All seemed well, yet it was not. A wild cry broke the peaceful silence. A shape tumbled down a path through the trees. Another shape hared after the first, who had a jagged gash down its side. "Tell me where it is and we can save a lot of trouble," the second animal growled. "Never! Never in my life!" the first cried, practically wailing. "Then I guess the information will die with you!" The second figure struck the first, shoving it into the Lake. After a while, its head bobbed up, gasping for air. "We. . . . won't. . . tell you! You'll never. . . find. . . . it. . . " The second animal chuckled quietly to itself. "And who's going to stop me?" It padded silently away into the trees.
__________
Sheena opened her eyes. Squinting through the thick water, she searched for the surface. She couldn't tell which way was which in the murky fuchsia water of the Lake, heavy with magic. It was the one body of water that Aquinas leopards couldn't swim skillfully in. There! A pinpoint of moonlight shone through the water. Sheena kicked strongly towards it, propelling herself through the Lake to that shaft of light. She could feel her breath slipping away. Just as she thought she would black out, her muzzle broke the surface. Sheena gasped for air, the gash Narwhal had given her stinging. She paddled for the shore, tail boosting her forward. The leopard reached the sandy beach and heaved herself up onto it. She shook her royal blue pelt out, shuddering.
Sheena knew that the Knowledge Protector would be proud. She would not reveal the Stone's location to anyone, especially not Narwhal, even if it cost her her life. The Aquai Leopards were the guardians of the Stone of Serenity and were part of the Elementi Leopards, along with the Ignis, Ventus, Aether, and Terra Leopards. Each kept a Stone of Harmony, like the Honesty Stone and the Joy Stone.
Each cult of Leopards selected one of their kind to keep all of said cult's lore, the Knowledge Protector. The tales and secrets of each cult were passed down through generations of Protectors. Sheena was training as the Apprentice Protector for her cult.
In addition to the Leopards in the five cults, there were Leopards that abandoned their birth cult and lived as enemies of the Elementi known as Rogues. Rogues banded together, and Narwhal lead his group, which he called the Rens. Narwhal and his group wanted to get everyone in Leovie who opposed the Stones of Harmony to join him, their goal being to capture the Stones, or destroy them, once and for all. Sheena didn't know what would happen if all balance in Leovie was destroyed, and she didn't really want to find out.
Lying on the shore now, gasping for breath, Sheena recounted the day she'd been selected for Apprenticeship by the Knowledge Protector, Ciel. . . .

I lost my last big post to lag, so I'll redo it. Or try to, at least...

~★~

Ciel's voice echoed in her mind. "Each tree belongs to a different Elementi. For example, the oak trees belong to the Terra and the willows to Ventus. If you ever are lost, the trees will tell you where you are."

Sheena racked her mind. Pine.... Pine.... Who lives in pine? Remembering, she groaned. It's the Aether. I don't need this right now. And I doubt they'll take kindly to an Aqua in their forest...

But you're half Aether, the Hidden voice reminded her. They don't know it, but you could kill them all with a flick of your paw. You're their leader's cub!

Sheena laughed dryly. There was no humor in the sound. Even worse. I'll prove that their leader's a traitor.

Use it as a weapon, the voice urged. Why do you have it if you don't use it?

No, Sheena snarled to the voice, narrowing her violet eyes. This isn't right. There must be—

But her thoughts were interrupted by a silky voice. "What have we here?"

Sheena whipped around, searching for the source of the words. And then, slowly, white spots began to reveal themselves amid the darkness. Soon they were joined by a body and two glowing eyes. And the Aether stepped out of the shadows.

He had the typical long, lean Aether build with an exceptionally thick tail. His fur began indigo at the muzzle, but smoothly changed to fuchsia at the haunches. His narrowed eyes were a bright cyan, a colour not uncommon to the star-dwellers.

"An Aqua, in Aether trees," he mused, expression mocking. "What be you doing here, water-dweller?"

"I- I got lost," Sheena stammered. Keeping her gaze trained on the Aether, she carefully backed away into the brush. "I'll just go away now...."

She made to leave, but the Aether raised a paw. "You got lost?" He barked a harsh laugh. "Don't the Aqua teach their cubs that pine trees aren't sycamores?"

"The Marsh is big," Sheena mumbled. "Really big."

Under the Aether's glare, she suddenly felt like a tiny cub again. "Please don't kill me."

The larger leopard's gaze softened slightly. "You're really pathetic, aren't you? And small, too. I won't kill you for straying over the line. You should go home, though, because I can't guarantee that my friends will treat you the same."

"I—can't," Sheena choked out.

"Pardon?"

"I can't go home." Sheena lowered her eyes.

"Why not?" the Aether asked, partly curious, partly concerned.

"It's a long story." Sheena let out a sigh. "Look, I need to leave now. I'm on a... quest, of sorts. I should head on my way."

Once again derisive, the Aether snorted. "You, a little cub, on a quest? A quest, of all things!"

Sheena's temper flared. "I'm not a cub! And I made it this far, didn't I?"

The Aether dipped his head. "Granted. But calm yourself. Someone might hear, and the results would be much more drastic than a little chat."

Sheena raised her hackles, deep blue fur bristling. "Who are you, star-dweller?"

The other leopard avoided the question, — was it deliberate? — instead commenting, "Your fur seems a little dark for an Aqua, does it not?"

Sheena reeled back.

This is it, the voice hissed. He's got you figured out. Kill him.

Sheena's eyes widened in fear. "N-no, no, no," she whispered. Tears flooding her eyes, and turned tail and ran into the woods.

Oh, the SUSPENCE! I can't take it! *faints*

Nevermind Bumble, we think that book is good.

Not bad. I like it.

I'm normally a realistic-fiction fan, but this is good!

*Goud booc. Iiii lyke Sehe nnaa.*

Um, Spirit-rain, why are you talking in CAPTCHA?

*I dunno. I'm weird...*

Okay... Anyways, the point is; your book is great! Keep it up!

For once I agree with Tulip. That book is good.

And for once I'm giving someone other than Spirit-rain a compliment. I really like the book!

Great book, Scylla!

I agree! I like how there's killing involved.

Of course you do. You're The Feline of the Opera.

Well, there is a chance you made ME the murderer.

Very true, my furry friend.

I'm not going to write this week, (I've got too much going on) but I would love to hear what you think will happen next. It can be anything from the grand plot to little scenarios. Thank you for reading!

I think... Sheena will run into someone, who will ask what she's doing, and the answer she gives won't be convincing enough, so...

I think that Sheena is going to bumb into a companion along the way-- or two--or three-- who will follow and aid her in her adventure.

Btw, if Sheena's Hidden instincts are practically controlling her, why does she want to go defeat Narwhal? Why does she decide to do it? What motivates her?
