The Hobbit!
I'm just talking about the Hobbit here because I haven't read Lord Of The Rings yet! I've read the Hobbit two times and it's still awesome!!!! Even though The Hobbit was written after World War I ("The war to end all wars" they said, well I say, "That didn't work mate, another one happend in like, a year or two after the first one.") Or World War II, it still is totally awesome!!!!!!!!!
Comment as you wish on it!

I adore the Hobbit! Chinchilla, you will love the Lord of the Rings! I am so excited for you!
The Hobbit is quirky, deep, beautiful and fun, giving you a patch of the world of Middle-Earth, and the Lord of the Rings opens up around that patch into a whole world of even deeper majesty and beauty. :)

Pretty much anything written by Tolkien is solid gold. That man's mind, I swear, sometimes I truly believe that middle earth is a real place and he visited it. Although, that would totally downplay his amazing ability to imagine.
But seriously, he made an entire world, all its lore, and not to mention creating an entire language and branches of it! The creative genius he was was so incredible, I would have loved to meet him.
Now let me talk about The Hobbit! Sometimes I'm not sure which I like more, The Hobbit, or The Lord of the Rings series. I am definitely glad I read The Hobbit first though, The Fellowship other Ring starts out pretty slow.
I think one of my favorite parts in The Hobbit is when Bilbo chases away the spiders, totally disliked how they downplayed his role in the movie, I was like, come on! That was really when he came out of his shell and into his robbery self! And his conversation with Smaug, ohmygosh, love that part!
Hmm, who are you guys' favorite characters? I love Beorn, not to mention Gandalf, and of course the little robber himself!

Ah! Silly auto correct, *of the not other!

OH YES I LOVE THE HOBBIT! I can agree with The Fellowship Of The Ring starting out slow. I am currently (well, not at the exact moment) reading- *ahem* trying to read The Fellowship Of The Ring.
Licorace the cat: "Why aren't you reading it right now? It does have cats, right?"
Erm, I'm not reading it right now because I'm doing Cricket, and no, I do not think it has cats. (Does it?)
Licorace the cat: *Sniff* "Now I understand why you aren't reading it right now. It doesn't have cats!"
AAH THAT'S NOT WHY I ALREADY TOLD YOU WHY!
Licorace the cat: "You must have been joking. If it doesn't have cats, that's why you're not reading it. Simple. Everyone loves cats."
Umm, that's not strictly true. Lots of people don't like cats.
Licorace the cat: "Hmmph."
Swift says "kixf." Are you trying to hiss at Licorace, Swift? *Why should I tell you?*

The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings are all amazing, where Tolkien came up with that exactly, I have no idea. BUT STILL!!

I am so glad you all feel this way about Middle-Earth! :D
Merenwe, (superb name), I totally agree with you about the movies- they are, quite frankly, a bit of a joke. I was pretty mad at the director until I found out about the circumstances he was in- in short, he had no time at all. was very tired, and had no time to think out the story- they were literally inventing the storyline on the set. So it's surprising that it is even watchable.
I would say that my favorite Hobbit character is Tolkien himself, which is cheating, as "Tolkien" includes all the characters. I love them all, they are so very real to me.
If any of you were offered the chance to speak with any Middle-Earth character, just one, which would you choose?
(February 8, 2016 - 3:57 pm)
I'd have to say, hands down, Galadriel. Seriously! It would be amazing! Think about it. She's really, really smart. And pretty. And an ELF! Although she can get carried away. Okay, I'm getting carried away. I'd also like to talk to Bilbo.

Cho, I would love meeting Galadriel! She is insanely cool! I mean, she is the only one of royal house of the Noldor to survive the War of the Jewels! She is very strong physically-Back in Valinor, she could out-do her male competitors in all kinds of sports. She has always been strong-willed, and was very headstrong back when she was young. That's what lead her to leave Valinor for Middle-Earth with Feanor and the other Noldor.
Read the Silmarillion and you will learn so much about her!
In the Lord of the Rings, she is easily the eldest elf in Middle-Earth, and her wisom has come to it's full. When you read about her youth in the Silmarillion, the scene where Frodo offers her the ring will mean so much more, and will make so much sense!
The real Galadriel is nothing like she is when portrayed by Cate Blanchett in the movies. She is much more Elvish. I never found the movie elves to be very elvish- they're more like just people with long hair, pointy ears and some metaphorical language thrown in. The book elves are much more mysterious, like people in old legend, which is what Tolkien wanted.
I'd better stop now :/ :D
And yes, I would also love to meet Bilbo! He is, I think, my favorite Hobbit (that's a nearly impossible decision to make!)
(February 9, 2016 - 12:36 pm)
You know, let me go get my parents copy of the Silmarillion.
(February 10, 2016 - 10:57 am)
Yes, do that Cho! It is so good! If you don't like it at first, don't worry- it is a bit different style-wise from tLotR. :)

Oh man, I don't think I could choose just one person to talk to. I would really enjoy talking to Samwise, but I think I would probably talk to Aragorn if I could. That would certainly be amazing!
One thing I really want to do in real life is go to the Hobbiton set in New Zealand! That would be sooo amazing!
(February 9, 2016 - 4:17 pm)
Yes, Merenwe, I completely agree! Did you know that the Hobbit holes in New Zealand were used for keeping sheep after the filming of the Lord of the Rings? So I guess they had to clear all the sheep out before they started filming the Hobbit ;)
